    problems with new R8

My new 2010 R8 was delivered at the end of April. In the first week, the check engine light went on and the engine was misfiring and they told me to keep driving it for a few days. I took the car in and they kept it for three days and could find nothing wrong but put in some additive in the gas. Three weeks later the check engine light went on again and they told me to keep driving again. A week later the engine almost shut down and felt like it was running on two cylinders. This went away on a restart but they told me to bring it in and not drive it any more. After two days they found the central engine control has to be replaced and that it would take at least a week to ten days to get it from Germany. They also kept the car because they now feel it could cause serious engine damage if it malfunctions again. My dealer is trying hard but relying on advice from remote R8 Consultants. I previously had 6 Porsches over 30 years and my new R8 with 1500 miles has been in the shop longer for unscheduled maintenance than the six other cars. I also went for the R8 versus a Ferrari thinking the parts would be easy to get.

sorry to hear that. i have engine misfire problem once but was solved by fuel additives. the problems on your car is by no mean typical of an R8. see if you can make your dealer take it back on lemon law grounds and get a new one. overall my R8 has been problem free and very enjoyable.

Where are you located? This is the first problem of this magnitude posted on this forum that I remember. Sympathy does no good, but once they fix your car I hope you will be happy again. Have you contacted your Audi advocate? They will help get your issues resolved. Their phone number is in your manual. Also I would speak with the GM of your dealership and not just the service person.

I had my front differential go out. They flew in a new one and I was back in my car in four days.

    Good luck.

I had a transmission problem, they just re-flashed the chips and all is well. The re-flash software was downloaded to my car from Germany via my dealer.Good luck

There was an antenna recall early in the R8 run to relocate the antenna. Something to do about too much heat exposure in the original location. Mine was done during an oil change. But I've been notified of nothing since regarding the antenna . . . and that was in 2008, so the problem should certainly be resolved on 2010 models.

Very sorry to hear of your woes with a new car. No fun. You made a better decision going w/the Audi over the Ferrari, though.

IF they really want it, they can get the parts from Germany in about 4-5 days. With the R8 being Audi's flagship, my dealership has generally been able to allocate needed items (rear suspension components in my case) very quickly. (relative to the part being in the US).

I am generally not one to throw any sort of biatch fit with my dealership, as they treat me wonderfully, but if I were you, I'd throw out a little jab about how they CAN get things there faster than they're telling you. Red Label shipping does work world wide.

I believe my conversation with the Service Mangler would go something along this line: "It's a brand new car, it's having issues right off the bat, it's been here more than once to get fixed and now you're telling me I have to wait over a week on a part to get here from Germany? Better call UPS and tell them to stick a red label on that package and get the ****ed thing here TOMORROW!"

If you're on more than the second repeat to the dealership to fix it, definitely tell them to expedite the parts from Germany ASAP.

V10 or V8? Please put your location in and also a small description of your ride in your signature. All this can be done via the User CP button in the banner at the top of any page.

What brand fuel are you using?
ALWAYS use a top tier fuel. Shell's premium has yet to let me down. There was a thread on "good" gasolines to use on this site a while back. Try the grand search feature for a little more info.

STAY AWAY FROM BP!! and that comment has absolutely nothing to do with the present issue in the Gulf of Mexico (even though I sold all my stock - helped fund my replacement R8). The issues I've seen w/their fuels in motocross bikes over the years is impressive. Many times I've seen a bike (both two and four stroke) go from running perfectly to crappy just because of filling up with Bull Poop's fuel.

How about going to another dealership if this one isn't helpful?

    Re: problems with new R8

I've posted multiple times about the problems I've had with misfires. I purchased my 2010 v10 in january and it's been in the shop 3 times for misfires. The technicians never found the cause. Others in this forum also have had misfires. Keep us updated.

Jeff, et al. -- can you describe what the misfires feel like? My 2010 4.2 6MT is at the dealership partly because I've been experiencing engine/throttle hesitation under full throttle third gear acceleration, generally occurring in the 3-4k rpm range. Similar?
