Usa 2012 Gt R8

I have been recently inquiring about trying to get one of the GT R8s that will come to the states. I got off the phone with Audi USA who said that they can not share any information with me at this time and that they are still researching the market. My dealer knows very little as well. If anyone gets or has info, please share in this thred...

What I have heard is that it is not sure that we will get any R8 GT here at all.
So basically what Audi USA is saying is probably very close to the truth. I think the problem is that if they bring the GT in to the US they have to recert the car for emissions and crash testing (That is why we do not have the sports seats available here in the USA) which might not be very beneficial for them to do as the amount of cars sold here would be very limited.

If the GT is offered in the U.S. Audi NA will most likely do what they did for the Superleggera, which is just equip the car with the standard seats. I have friends both at Audi and Lambo USA and Audi AG and, without question, they will not certify a car with such low numbers for the USA (absolutely huge dollars) just to have the sport seats included.

As a contrast, the reason the Murci SV got the Reventon sport seats is because that seat is not airbag equipped, whereas the choice for the Gallardo Superleggera was to exclude the sport seats and offer the standard (boo hoo) seats.

Just think of the RS4 steering wheel and seats... same thing. Additionally, this is why the RS4 only had 2 interior leather colors; because the car would have to go through DOT crash tests for other colors. Audi NA's decision to offer the exclusive red 2-tone interior on some '08 RS4's (so equipped) was a bold move and cost them huge dollars as they had to re-certify the car with that specific color of leather. During our factory tour a couple of weeks ago we saw the car and sat in it, i asked firstly about the roll out of the car, i asked why, if the car is already in production is it not available in the UK until spring 2011, the reply was that they are making it in very small runs, away from the normal production line (Lamborghinis line maybe?) and the first cars are going to other markets, he said it will go to the UK early 2011 and progress to the USA. So, from the tour guides mouth, it will hit the USA in limited numbers, 33 to the UK, what i forgot to ask is why 33 & is it that number to each country.

I can confirm the standard seats are the air bag seats, at an extra price you can spec the carbon lightweight bucket seats, I’m not a big guy and i struggled getting in and out of the car with these seats so i wouldn’t spec them as i will be using as a daily driver, also, i wouldn’t spec the roll bar and plumbed in fire extinguisher as it takes up all the luggage space and i won’t be tracking the car seriously, the guide did mention there may well be Audi exclusive event invitations to GT owners, track days & so on.

Jimmy, if you PM me with your e-mail address i will scan the Audi information sheets i have and e-mail over to you, this explains about the car in detail, what’s standard and what can be specked etc.
