    Winter Questions

Hello! New to the forum, and still working on my wife to let me purchase an R8. She is of the opinion that it isn't "necessary." I can't figure out why.

Since I'm in Minnesota, what do those of you do with your R8 over the winter in cold climates? I know I can store it in a heated garage, but that eliminates about half of the driving year. How many of you treat this as a daily driver and actually use the car, versus those of you who keep it in the best possible condition?

I'm tempted to purchase one to simply use as a daily driver, but I'm concerned about the attention it will attract. Of course, this all assumes my wife finally relents!

I am a few hundred miles north of you in Winnipeg. My car is a daily driver from about the beginning of April to late November. For the down months I store it in my garage under a cover, but it still manages to taunt me every morning when I get in the winter beater - a 2001 A6.

You will attract attention no matter what you do. Better not get the car if it will bother you. The vast majority is very positive though, except for a lot of Porsche guys who suddenly develop an inability to look sideways when you pull up beside them.

I drove my car all through the winter. Couldn't resist a bit of fun too:

I live in Eagan, MN. I store my car at IMOLA Motorsport in Golden Valley from late November until the first of March. You cannot drive on the summer tires in the winter. There are very good winter tires for the R8. I only know of one R8 owner in MN that drives his car in the winter. His summer car is a SLS Merc. Send me a PM if you want to get together some time.

LOL!! That has to be the slowest set of donuts I've ever seen.

I know we don't suffer from the cold in Ohio like you do up north, but I drive mine every day in every condition the world offers. No worries at all.

Get it, drive it, love it and avoid trees.

    Re: Winter Questions

I drive mine all year round - our winters are reasonably similar - this past winter was a relatively mild one but there wasnt a single day that I couldn't drive it - I have winter tires and with the quattro drive the car handles better than I would have expected - the looks happen all year round - I would miss this car if I had to store it away for the winter..

    Re: Winter Questions

Couple of good threads on this if you search for "winter tires". Bottom line is get a second set of wheels/tires and clear bra the whole front then drive it year round.
