How would you feel about putting your car on a ferry?

A friend of mine wants to do Road America this fall by way of a Lake Michigan ferry. The ferry ride sounds like a good way to mess up the body. For example, from their website:

    http://www.lake-express.com/about/ph...x?aid=5&pid=29
"Just a little bit more... whoa! whoa! whoa!"

Maybe some of you UK guys have ferry experience you can draw from?

By the way, I picked up my car Wednesday. After 2.5 years since my deposit, I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. The car is amazing, totally extinguishing any thoughts I had that my S4 was a sportscar. I drove it home across the state and had a great time. I was relieved that few people even notice it. You guys had me a little worried that the car would be some kind of moving spectacle, but non-car people probably think it's just another Corvette. So far, the car is perfect.

I take mine over the Corran ferry nr Fort William. This is an older open platform roll-on, roll-off. You just have to trust the ferrymen, they're usually very experienced, but make sure the b*t*ds in front and behind you have put their handbrake/parkbrake on. A couple of weeks ago a large motorhome decided it wanted to exit the boat mid-crossing!

When riding on the ferry your friend should be sure that he has deactivated the tow away protection. Otherwise he might get a alarm

MikeB + harrison = brave souls. Maybe I worry too much. If they really park us nose to tail it doesn't seem like it would take much weather to knock some of the cars around. If you guys think it's ok, then perhaps I'll go that route.

I didn't know about the tow protection. Time for me to get through the manual.

I took a ferry recently, and snapped a pic. It was across the St. Mary river near Jacksonville, FL. The biggest problem was the ramp onto the ferry - almost bottomed out.

We have a car ferry in my home town across Lake Windermere, there is no way my car would get over the ramps without tearing off the front spliter, so, i choose to drive around the lake which is more fun anway!
