Do you hear this noise from your R-tronic?

Folks, anyone with R-Tronic gear notice a clanking noise while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at moderate pace & RPM range? Don't get this noise beyond that. Wonder if that's normal as I would expect a smoother gear transition. It sounded irritating. Don't notice it if I change at high rev and at more aggressive pace.

That sound is not normal. Mine does not to it.Try and isolate the sound and get to the dealer.

I do not get that sound as well. I would have a good dealer check it out. My trans. experience was MUCH better after chip re-flash.

I hear it occasionally, especially if I'm int he garage with the windows open and throw it in reverse. It's like you can hear the gears changing, but it's fairly loud

It sounded like some parts of the gear metal plates hitting one another when the gear switches from 1 to 2. Not very loud clunk but audible when you listen carefully. Gear shifts are normal and the car drives alright. The gear change is noise free (no clunking) from 2 to 6. Only when it is from 1-2 at moderate RPM (3-4k) at normal city speed.

It appears like the timing of gear shift is not aligned very well, causing plates to hit. Get this regardless of gear mode...Auto, Manual or Sports setting.

I doubt it is anything serious as the car drives normal and i am sure Audi would claim it is normal. Just that the sound is little irritating. Was expecting the change to be very precise.

Noise is such a hard subject to discuss on a chat board. I got so frustrated trying to analize different exhaust makes/notes on my computer. Sound systems vary so much it's a waste of time listening through MOST laptop speakers...but some of the best sound definition can come from a computer with the right sound system. My R-tronik is nice and quiet .(so far)

With all of my R-Tronic issues I am glad to say I don't have any lound clanking noise on my 1st-2nd shift. Good luck and please do let us know what it eventually is.

Sent the car in for inspection and there was an Audi expert from Germany on visit. Test drove several rounds and sampled other R8 to conclude that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the transmission and gear, just a normal gear engagement noise, which is audible when changing from 1-2 gear between 2500-2800rpm.

They did a software calibration nonetheless but it change nothing. I am fine for as long as the Audi folks reassure me that it is fine.
