It's an Audi/VW transmission breather cap, but looks like it's being used differently in the R8, just as a cap possibly. That usually sits on a tube out of the transmission case and is somewhat loose to allow venting from the gearbox. When the engine is running is there vacuum at that open line? Likely just wants to be capped with a clamp again, could be vac line for anything that they don't use, secondary air, etc. If it's a vac line that's a big vacuum leak and the car will run poorly. Looked in diagrams quickly and didn't see a termination like that, however that cap does not list in the R8 parts section at all.

It's the Kuhneutson Valve. It helps keep the bumper bearings lubricated.

It does look like some sort of one way valve. Possibly, as Alex says, some sort of vent line.

No no no. That valve needs to be capped to prevent a spun muffler bearing.
