    Finally Delivered. 2011 V10 White/Black! First Impressions

    Hey Guys

After a few months of research and some recon work thanks to my assistant i was able to locate the exact car I wanted, I paid a little over sticker which I am ok with considering every dealer in california laughed at me when I told them I wanted in by August in this exact color and options.

    Exterior White
    Interior Black
    CF Interior
    Door Sills
    Nav/Plus
    CF side Blades
    Extended Leather
    Alacantra Liner

I think that is pretty much all options I could find. Thanks to all you guys for all the great info and feedback and making this an easier decision. I currently have also a 2008 bmw m6, 2011 bmw 760li, and a range rover, the r8 is going to be my m6 replacement as bmw has not come up with anything for this segment for the car market.

First impressions.....Love the sound, love the handling and feel of the car, I have yet to feel the true speed as I am breaking it in.....I can't say enough good things about how the car drives, i opted for the Rtronic which was an easy transition from my smg in the m6 and must say it is faster by far.

So far everything with the car is great but I really do miss a lot of the features my bmw m6 had that this does not, mainly the HUD, heads up display for seeing what gear you are in and your rpm/speed....don't know why this isn't an option on every sports car.

My only complaint so far, the electronics and nav system in this car, my first audi I would have to say are inept compared to the bmw and mercedes I have. In fact i would venture to say its the worst nav system I have encountered in my stable of cars. The electronic controls on the wheel, are too sensitive and often miss what I am trying to select. That said this is a racecar, but for almost cost I would hope there was some more intelligence put into the electronics and interfaces.

At first i thought i may be able to use this as a daily driver, but after aweekend of fun, i think I am going to keep the m6 as well.

So, anyone want to tell me what the must have upgrades are? I am starting with a new steering wheel as this one is not very thick like other sports cars.

I'll get some pics up this week after a nice clean

Congrats on the new ride! It's a wonderful machine.

Stop breaking it in - go flog it. The engine will drink less oil and you'll have a happier car.

As with anything new, the controls will take a little getting used to. It's just a slight movement required to operate the wheels and buttons - your thumbs will train quickly.

The nav system is not up to par w/the rest of many mfgs, but it does get you where you need to go.

    Once again, congrats!

Ardy: Thanks for your first impressions. I had a '07 BMW 650i and the only two things I miss are the Heads Up Display and the Nav. Even my Mercedes '07 CL600 doesn't have a very good Nav and the one in my old '09 E350 sucked! To my knowledge only GM's Corvette uses HUD besides BMW. This technology is terrific. In my BMW it projected to front windshield at driving eye level the speed, radar cruise (Distronics) and Nav directions. Absolutely dearly miss it and wish every other manufacturer would offer it, including Audi.

That would be nice. IMO the Corvette's display is too low on the windshield to be as useful as I'd like.

Desperado: It is higher than your ZR1's (as I remember from a Corvette test drive at Laguna Seca during ALMS last June) but maybe not really fully at eye level neither in the BMW's. As always manufacturers are concerned about frivolous lawsuits and probably the liability corporate lawyers warnings were heeded, thus the lowering of the projection on the screen for both makers. The original military ****pit application, as you know, is straight at eye level. Perhaps this is the only advantage to being a vertically challenged person (I am a short 5'7" Napoleon of a man) because sitting on my 650i Vert the HUD seemed almost at eye level, at least from my fading memory. z356

    Regarding the HUD --

We briefly owned a 2010 BMW X6 ActiveHybrid that had the heads up display, and while it was nice, I couldn't see it with my polarized sunglasses on. Is that typical?

(We briefly owned the X6 AH because it didn't work. The car failed to start twice in 2,000 miles, complaining of "drivetrain/hybrid errors." BMW bought it back. 2011 X5 ordered, but dealer crashed it on their lot before delivery. It's in repair now, getting a new door. I wonder if some ghost from Ingolstadt doesn't want a BMW in my driveway.)

Yes, the HUD uses polarized light.
I had the same issue on both my M5 sedans.

Yep I live in Hidden Hills near los angeles, lot of hot cars around here racing around in the canyons.....

Thanks for all the congrats, i am really enjoying the car except for the few things mentioned, being a BMW fanatic all my last 3 cars have had the heads up displays and over time they got better and better, and because of that I decided to keep the m6 in addition to the r8, the compliment each other well.

So what do you guys suggest i do as far as mods? I'm ordering new thick wheel from mcarbon tomorrow, the other thing i was thinking about doing was a new exhaust, while the current one sounds great i think it could sound much better, any suggestions? I like exhausts that at low rpms give you the noise you want but at high way speeds dont sound whiney.

Next I may add a white strip to the seats down the middle and along the doors, do a custom white and black interior combo like on my m6.
