A/C noise/ whining Help!!!

Hey Guys, just picked up my v10 brand new 2011 on friday, driving it today in the 100 degree weather, i noticed that when i have the a/c on, and i mute the sound system or turn off completely, i hear kind of a whining noise as i accelerate...

the more i accelerate the louder the whine gets, has anyone had this issue? it only seems to occur with the a/c on.....

Other question, is there anyway to set the car to not go into neutral if your foot is off the brake? I find that to be really dumb, my m6 always stayed in gear which makes much more sense.

I get a bit of a whine from the engine whether the AC is on or not ... it's not coming through the sound system and I like it :-)

I'm sure the shift to neutral if you leave your foot off the brake for a few seconds is a safety feature and probably not programmable. As others have recommended, I will often shift my R-Tronic into neutral at a light if I think it's going to be more than about 20 seconds to save wear on the throwout bearing. After a few embarassments you'll remember to select first before you hit the gas ... it becomes pretty automatic :-)

The auto neutral is a US safety feature due to Audi's heritage in the US - Much more embarrasing to rev the car pointing at the garage door with it still in first ;-)

A/C compressor will add some noise when it's operating, but if it's much louder than the engine/exhaust it may have an issue. If the system has an oiling issue or the compressor is bad out of the box it could make some bad noises, or the compressor clutch could have issues, but those tend to make unwanted noise when the A/C is off and it should be freewheeling. If it's genuinely quite loud a trip to the dealership might be in order.
