    Number 4 Up In Smoke

Another 458 burns in so many weeks. This time in California.

The article claims that 9 of these have now been destroyed?

You would have to have rocks in your head to buy one of these until they get this sorted out.

Shouldn't there be a recall by now? Not like they sell hundreds of thousands of these... For the amount of sales, 9 seems like a lot.

Ferrari makes maybe, what, a few hundred a year? And I agree - that's way too many to go "poofkaboom" for the numbers that they produce. Someone in the factory must be thinking "Oh crap, that's bad news!"

Heck, I must admit that the new twin turbo setup that's been installed in my car has me a tad worried with the heat that radiates from the exhaust system. I see fiberglass tape wrapping of the exhaust system in my future. I guess pulling the rear bumper facia off to install the c/f rear grill parts is going to be worth the effort.

Probably better to err on the side of safety just in case.

Insurance company might not be particularly happy with another phone call of "you wouldn't believe it but...

The Audi dealer installed my Stasis Exhaust but insisted on wrapping it up first in exhaust tape due to heat concerns in the hot climate here.

A friend of mine who owns Ferraris and gets them serviced at a specialist ferrari garage in Yorkshire ( Italia Autosport ) has been told that the problem is simple to fix & can’t understand why Ferrari haven’t sorted this problem out, apparently the owner of the garage prepares ferrari track cars and also races them & knows them inside out as he often strips them down, he recently worked on a 458 & he said there is a fuel pipe which is perilously close to parts of the car which get very hot, thus the cause of the fires ( IHO )

I really like the Italia, i think it’s the best looking Ferrari for years and would if i could afford one order one, although, i would be having second thoughts just now!

I understood you're in line for an R8GT - isn't that the same price more or less in UK? Here in Germany they are both short of 200 kEuro (naked). From your reply it seems that either the GT is cheaper or the 458 more expensive, curious to know....

BTW: I am in line for the GT as well, checking it out in person next Monday and then I might pull the trigger But I am very unsure as I prefer the smoother lines of the V8 - on the other hand, one of 333.....

I think the Italia starts at £170k in the UK before extras and the R8GT £142k before extras but is very highly specked up as standard, just dont think i would get the extra spend passed my Wife who is pushing for a large conservatory / house extension!!

Thxs - that is interesting in terms of pricing. The Italia is in Germany more or less equal to yours (in Euros a little more than 200), but the GT comes 10% less in the UK compared to us.
