    New or AfterMarket Nav

    Hey Guys

Had my r8 for a week now, i have really been enjoying driving it, the one thing i really don't enjoy is the electronics of the car, mainly the nav unit. has anyone installed a aftermarket nav, do you lose any functionality of the car by doing so? I would hate to mess with the stock nav system but man, i really think its a piece of junk compared to my bmws or mercedes systems....everything is almost counter logical, the 4 corner system for selection is painful as a visit to the dentist.

Please let me know if anyone else has explored these options, i would even install a different nav from another audi if they were better because this one sucks.

I'd agree, but I think you'd be doing your car a disservice hacking some aftermarket junk in there just the same.

It would be helpful if you entered a location in your profile ("Quick Links">"Edit Profile">towards the bottom of page is a location field).

By searching for other posts from you, I gather this is a 2011 V10. Listing the year of the car in the question might help with some answers. There was a change from 2009 to 2010. The primitive Nav has been a gripe of many owners. One feature I would want to make sure you do not use is the backup camera with steering lines. It is tempting to just put a portable Nav system in there and ignore the factory option. That way you still have all the original features and a better Nav system.

it would be a bit funny driving around in the R8 with a portable GPS but that's your best bet (most up-to-date maps and all original functions of the car)
