Check Engine Light came on

Check Engine Light came on Sunday evening.....I cringed since I just got the back after getting its service. So back it went on Monday to find out what's up. Dealer called today to say that the code it kicked out has directed them to the exhaust manifold and they will call with status tomorrow. I know at least one other thread had the check engine light come on so any tips would be appreciated. BTW I did check and double check the gas cap. FYI 2009 R8 R-Tronic with 9200 miles.

Update: got my car back after being in the shop for 4 days, it is running as strong as ever but they had to replace a bunch of parts including all the injectors, spark plugs, clean the exhaust manifold etc etc. They gave me a bottle of Audi Fuel Additive that they have asked me to put in after 3000 miles and said I should only be using Premium Fuel which I have always done. Unfortunately, I will need to take it back as from time to time it now revs at idle from 800 to about 1200 rpm while at rest and they failed to fix my Blue Tooth which keeps dropping as they could not duplicate it. I will list the parts the dealer replaced in detail if anyone needs it.

May I ask what brand fuel you've been using? I just wonder if it could be a fuel (brand) related issue.

My '10 V8 will rev up and down if I depress the gas pedal slightly. Also have a engine vibration when rev and hold at 1500rpms. Not sure if this is just nature of the 4.2. Will be going for first service in a few weeks.

It sounds like you have the infamous Audi FSI carbon build up problem. The solution is exactly what they did for a friend of mine's RS4. To do it correctly they had to pull the heads and clean all of the carbon build-up off of the heads, valves and replace the injectors.

I have been waiting to see if this would happen to the R8 model(s) since this will affect both the V8 and V10 models. The only way to truly tell if we are getting carbon build-up, short of pulling the heads, is with a TV camera. I hate to say it, but I hope your situation is an anomaly.

The signal could have been triggered by any of millions of possibilities. Why play guessing games. Just go to the dealer for a diagnostic hook-up. And for free. No-one knows more about the R8, than some of your Audi R8 service techs.You have to learn when TWO or more R8 techs are on duty.Two (or more) brains are better than one. Carbon build-up? Maybe on a car that is driven like a *****-cat.

My friend with the RS4 has tracked his car four times this year and three times last year.

I have seen video of him passing a fellow R8 owner at Road America. He drives more aggressive than I do...but I still pass him whenever I get near him. He has yet to pass me.

Hey Gazza,any more carbon building up issues?? Why ? I see a lot more than just carbon, there.
