R8 Special Interest Group Event - Friday Oct 29, 2010 (Audi Club Golden Gate)

Audi Club Golden Gate would like to see how much interest exists in forming an R8 SIG (Special Interest Group) in Northern California. To this end, your club is planning a separate group just for R8s during the Scenic Drive at this year's Audifest.
This is your chance to:

• Go on a scenic and sporting drive,
• Meet your fellow R8 owners and visit over lunch,
• Get a free membership in your local Audi Club chapter and meet some of its members, and
• Visit Infineon Raceway and tour the beautiful Audi Forum Sonoma.

All for the cost of lunch and a few hours of your time.

There has been a lot of interest expressed on this forum in getting more recognition of R8 owners by the Audi Club and by Audi of America. Here is your chance to show that there is really genuine interest, and not just idle talk. I urge all of you in the area to sign up and attend the drive. While the club is not affiliated with Audi of America, strong R8 attendance at this drive will be noticed by Audi, and will send a strong message that there is an interest in more R8-focused events.

For any of the R8 group that may not be a member of the ACNA yet, we are doing a Mt. Tamalpais drive the Friday before Audifest. There is a separate registration for just the drive on MotorSportsReg.com. Any Audi R8 owners who are not yet members of the ACNA will get a free membership if they sign up for the drive. It will end at Infineon Raceway Audi Forum in time for tech and other pre-event activities. We will be doing R8 rides on Sunday for participants of Audifest. Maybe some R8 owners who have been reluctant to get on track will catch the buzz and decide to join us at Audifest.

MARIN DRIVE: WARM-UP TO AUDIFEST

Drive the beautiful Marin Headlands and Mt. Tamapalis on the Friday afternoon before Audifest 2010 takes place at Infineon Raceway. You do not have to be registered for Audifest to enjoy this beautiful drive and the company of other Audi owners. Joe Lucchio is planning a drive through some of the most scenic areas of Marin County. Stopping for a hosted lunch along the way and ending at the Audi Forum at Infineon Raceway about 3:00. If you haven't seen the forum and witnessed the buzz of activities around an Audi Club track event this is your opportunity.

The drive will start at the Courtyard Hotel in Novato at 9:30 with a sign in and registration. The Courtyard is the headquarters hotel for Audifest that starts Friday afternoon at Infineon Raceway. The drive will leave exactly at 10:00 for Marin County. Lunch will be provided and water supplied during the drive. $15 per person.

Of course, if you are interested in getting out on the track I encourage you to sign up for the full event! Last year the instructors at the Audi Sportscar Experience gave R8 V10 rides to all participants on Sunday, and it sounds like this may be in the offering again this year!

Audi Club track events are safe and sane. Drivers of all skill levels are welcome.

Join over 150 other motorsports enthusiast for a weekend of learning more about yourself and your car on one of the most beautiful race tracks in North America. Very Good! I wish I wasn't 600+ miles away from ACGG Chapter! Being in Portland is kind of like being in an R8 desert! ACNW has no sig for R8s that I'm aware of. ACNW is pretty active, with lots of events, but they're somewhat Seattle focused also, which is 170 miles away.

Just not a "critical mass" or R8s in Portland, apparently....though Kberg, SFV10 and I have met and chatted a few times. Kevin (Kberg) has been very silent of late...he may have sold his car or moved or something. The 3 of us have talked about a Portland R8 group, but 3 guys just isn't enough to get it going, really!

BUT, ACNW is hosting the Frank Beddor Nationals along with their usual Quattrofest track weekend the 1st weekend of November @ PIR and other Portland area venues. It would be great to see some CA R8s up here for that.

But, to be honest, don't expect that it won't be raining! One of the orginal attractions for Quattrofest @ PIR that traditional November week was a chance to experience rain driving on PIR, which is an interesting and pretty technical track but, wide, flat and relatively safe for wet conditions. If we have a dry, beautiful Fall, which present weather patterns may be signalling, well, all the better to enjoy the beautiful PacNW!

WillyJP at this time, and barring any unforseen schedule problems, my wife and I are planning on heading up to the Audi Club Nationals after Audifest at Infineon. It will be fun to join you for the festivities.

Willie, I hear ya' - I live in the "real" R8 desert. I never saw another R8 in the year and a half I owned the car. Heck, I saw more Gila Monsters and Rattlesnakes than R8s....

If you would like to join these five R8s for the festivities, now is the time to register online and make your hotel reservation. As you can see there is a wide variety of cars. There is also a big range of driver experience, with plenty of novices bringing their Audi or other sports car out for the first time.
