    Trickle charging

I trickle charge all the hot rods, especially in the winter, and am dissapointed there is no active 12v outlet on the car. The other German cars, BMW, Porsche, have an active outlet I can use. I can direct wire the battery and run the cord through the bonnett but would rather have an inboard active outlet, also for the V1. Thanks for your help. Will

    Re: Trickle charging

I hard wired my V1 to the fuse block pretty easily using the V1 hardwire kit. I simply ran a super thin black two wire (RJ11?) cord under the trim along the windsheild. Very low tech, but 100% out of site.

On the trickle, I hard wired the battery for the Battery Tender two post connection. Currently it is under the bonnet but if you got creative, you could have it under the front grill... but that's take a little cutting and routing.

The downside for me is that if the hood is closed with the trickle charger plugged, its easy to hop in and back out of the garage... so I rely upon a post it. Pretty high tech. Most of my other cars have batteries in the /or accessible from the driver compartments or the rear so I don't have the same problem.

For some reason the 12v sig adapter trickle chargers make me nervous... but I have no idea why.

I believe Audi specifically discourages cig lighter chargers in the R8. I was told by the dealer it can damage the electronics, fwiw. The dealer installed a charger so I have a plug in the front compartment, but you could easily install your own like kmarshall.
