    I'm ready to purchase

I have finally decided to go with the V10. My decision was either the R8 or GT3RS.

Now I need some help on the price. Was wondering if anyone is getting anything below sticker? I'm located in California, but will gladly purchase out of state if the deals are better.

I have checked with a couple of dealers locally and they will not do anything below sticker. One dealer had $50K above sticker!!!

    Thanks

You might check for a used or even a new 2010 R8. I would expect some of the dealers to be willing to adjust prices of them. Make sure to consider the real costs if you end up going out of state. Don't smog checks start when you bring it into CA, not like the prepaid (no tests) for the first four or five years of CA cars.

I have been looking at used ones also, but the price seems to be holding on the V10. All the dealers locally do not have any 2010 left.

Good question regarding smog. I will check with DMV today.

I think your only chance to go below MSRP is to find a 2010 on the lot as the 2011s start to roll in. Good luck.

I saw Hoehn Audi in Carlsbad had a 2010 V10 R8, when I stopped by and it is still on their website.

Miramar Audi had a 2010 V10 a couple of weeks ago, when I stopped by. You might want to call some other local dealers. Their websites inventories are sometimes not correct.

I'm not sure how much these dealers would negotiate on prices, but I would think they would want to get rid of any 2010s.

I see the 2011 convertibles have hit. I see a couple sitting in local inventories.

Rector Motors up here in Northern Ca has a black r-tronic with a v10 and only 3k miles. It looks like new.

    Also what I did was:

Setup a search profile on auto trader for slightly used cars (v10 with the right colors and transmission).
Setup a search profile on cars.com for new cars (v10 with right colors and transmission).
Setup a search on craigslook.com with the words "Audi r8 (v10 or 5.2). It's a single national craigslist search.

And then waited for my daily alerts.

FWIW: i offered the dealer in Texas $12k below asking price on slightly used v10 and ended up paying a little more than $10k off asking.

$1200 to ship on enclosed transport from Texas to CA.

I have to pay the use tax in CA equal to the local sales tax.

I need to smog it before registering it in ca ($40) and then every 2 years.

    It's getting delivered on Monday

Hope that helps. Also, if anyone wants my cancelled 2011 manual black new v8 at around $125k-$130k, it should arrive at Rector Audi in a few months. I figure they might expedite refunding my deposit if someone else is interested in it

Thanks everyone for your suggestion. I will start putting in alerts on all those websites and see what comes up.

I'm looking for a manual, which might be a little harder to find.

    Dave congrats on your purchase

Curious as to how you guys check the car before having it shipped to your location -- how do you make sure you're getting a sound car? I'm in the process of looking for one and any advice would be great!

I always fly out and look at the car. I almost made the mistake once of buying the car without looking at it, and the car turned out to be a disaster!!!

    Re: I'm ready to purchase

No great advice from me. I bought mine from a reputable dealer that did the orginal sale and service (not bought in auction); they assured me it's never been tracked and always garaged. I also spent time on the car with used car manager, and had them digitally photo anything remotely scuffed or worn for me. It's still got plenty of warranty left, so I didn't bother to certify it.

I also took a look at the carfax report.

If you were considering buying from an individual or a trade-in from auction, I would probably either fly out, or have a trusted friend who lives in the area take a look.
