    Speed bumps and inclined driveways

Ok... getting very excited. Going into the dealership tomorrow to fill out all the paperwork. I have a trip next week, so the dealership is sending a special truck to pick up the car (for my birthday), and I will take delivery of it on the 1st. Going to put in the IPOD interface, so I will have lots of pictures.

Anyhow, are speed bumps and inclined driveways difficult to get over? Do you find yourselves planning out parking lots?

My own driveway has a very steep curb and incline change so I needed to pour a bit of concrete :-) This thing is slighly lower than my 993RS.

Most speed bumps are fine at the spec speeds.

I live in Miami and you definitely need to plan out driveways and parking lots....Especially if you want to preserve your spoiler....

Not any more of a problem than any other low to the ground car. Speed bumps are taken slow and out on an angle for low lying driveways.

My first time entering the local Audi dealership with the R8 I actually scuffed/scratched the lower, painted portion of the front end.
So now anytime the car goes in for service I have to enter through the Porsche side of the lot...that's usually good for a few comments from the other brands salesmen and customers.

After my initial tantrum, there was some civilized discussion about the dealership repairing the great product they sell at such a poor location, but I opted for some free or discounted maintenance when the time comes.
I thought about fixing the very minor damage and have since concluded, although it annoys me, the defect is in a location that is not visible unless you get on your hands and knees and with the condition of the roads around here it very well could very well happen again simply driving on these "goat trails" they call city streets!

Hmmmm, I wonder how the price of a clutch replacement compares to the price of painting the lower front end?

My speed bump when backing our normally will scrape my front lip. I have to be careful when I get the front tires over the hump.

Re: Speed bumps and inclined driveways

Oddly enough, my 2004.5 Volkswagen Jetta GLI scraped more than my R8. I have only scraped the R8 once since I've owned it entering a parking garage - and had it scrape when I drove down the ramp to lower level. The GLI used to scrape on just about anything. Speed bumps in the R8 are hardly an issue at all. Never had any issues with the R8. I was more careful with the GLI than I am with the R8, and the GLI scraped more often than the R8 so far.

Thanks everyone for all of the feedback.

My R8 is in port this evening.... should have it by the end of next week. In case anyone is interested, Crown Audi in St. Petersburg has a new R8 Convertible in it's showroom, buyer just backed out.... metallic brown with the brown interior. Very cool!

Exclamation Re: Speed bumps and inclined driveways

I added a few extra washers on a couple of the front spoiler mounting screws. This way the head of the screw rubs the driveway BEFORE the bumper does. \"/
