I have small hands and already have to use an awkward hand position on the wheel to reach the paddles. Can anyone with a sport wheel comment on whether the thicker wheel means the paddles are even further away?

Not sure but have you considered getting the carbon fiber paddle shifter extensions that are offered on oemplus? I myself am thinking of doing that since I also have small hands.

I imagine they would be the same distance from the back of the wheel, but since the wheel is thicker, you will need longer fingers to reach the paddles, but we are only talking millimetres here.
I have big hands, so I'm really looking forward to the meatier feel of the Sports steering wheel compared to the standard R8 wheel (which is identical to the wheel in my current TT).
I have small hands - wear a small glove size. I couldn't stand the Alcantera lined and padded steering wheel that originally came w/my 09 (added by the previous owner). It was thick, uncomfortable and not my cup of tea at all.
