    WSJ on the Spyder

Not too informative, but some cute quips http://www.marketwatch.com/video/ass...A-9EF7DC87DD17. Hopefully, the "last of its kind" theme is not true.

    Re: WSJ on the Spyder

I had a chance to see a Spyder in person at my local dealer. The car had been ordered, but the guy decided he didn't want the R tronic so he didn't take delivery.

I sat in it, top up, top down, walked around it a lot, and came to the (sad) conclusion that it didn't really excite me the way my R8 coupe does. It's nice -- don't get me wrong -- but it's just not as nice, in my opinion, as the coupe.

x2. Doesn't really awaken anything with me.

And what's the deal with a 525hp cabrio? Does one really need to screw up ones girlfriend's hair that badly?

And nothing screams "look at me! look at me!" better than a topless Lambo. I wouldn't waste a dime on a Audi R8 Spyder. But that's just me.

I saw one in the flesh at the dealership. I guess I am in the same camp - pretty stunning car, but I like the coupe a lot better. I feel that the lines get interrupted without the roof, and that the design just does not "work" as well in this form. I can see how those that are partial to Spyders would fall in love though.

Nice car..if fact very nice BUT not a jaw dropper IHMO

Really takes the aura away from the R8.

Lambo spyder does it so much more successful in chopping the roof off along with the Ferrari 458 spyder which looks to be something special.

Not to disagree with my colleagues here too severely but I have the other opinion. I think the spyder looks better than the coupe. I have not seen both side by side but in my brief viewing of the spyder and comparison to my coupe, I think the spyder wins. I would agree that this is a matter of personal taste.

Interesting because I am not a convertible guy and never have owned one. Ordered a spyder and will be replacing my 09 R8. I'm told it is on the line right now. I hope that my long term opinion is the same as the one I have now.

    Re: WSJ on the Spyder

IMHO both look fantastic but in different ways, the coupe has a different 'balance' and that is helped by the sideblade. The spyder looks awesome but in a different way - Audi has used some subtle tricks (like body colour on top of the doors) to lower the belt line. I am still toying with the idea of a V8 spyder but being temped by a 458 and trying to see if I could live with the stigma..
    Best Regards, Ian

    Re: WSJ on the Spyder

Well, i think the Spyder is a great looking car, ( but then i would, wouldnt i! )

I also think the the coupe is a great looking car, but i must admit, even though i have the GT coming i sort of feel its a bit like going backwards, this may seem an odd thing to say given the GTs stats and trim but i do think the Spyder has the edge!

Ian, Italia probs sorted out now so go get one, i will have one when they start to come down in value a bit.

    Re: WSJ on the Spyder

I agree with both points of view. I'm not a convertible guy at all - actually can't think of a convertible that I like enough to consider owning...

When I got to see the Spyder that came into our local dealership, I was both disappointed and impressed at the same time. There are certain points of view that the car looks stunning, then there are others that, well... not so much.

It definitely looks better w/the top down than up, at least to me.

I'd rather have a moon/sun roof than a retractable top, but that's a moot point.

Hey, as long as the car turns the owner on, who cares what others think!
