    Supercars Exposed tonight

I am sorry I had the title incorrect. It was in fact Battle of the Supercars. Wow. The 650 HP Porsche 997.2 TT dominated the 650 HP V8 R8 TT. In all four catagories the P car whipped the R8 butt. It was sad to see.

Are you sure it was "Supercars Exposed" and not "Battle of the Supercars"? I see a an episode of BoS with the description you mention showing on 10/3 on Speed Channel, on my cable box.

Eventually they will have that episode added to their site:

It was Battle of The Supercars. The Audi had an EVOMS TT kit. They should have had a car with a Heffner TT. Heffner seems to have more experience with the R8. It was pretty disappointing to watch

    Re: Supercars Exposed tonight

It was a pretty lame showing for the R8 but I think it had more to do with the TT kit. There is no way both cars were putting out the same 650 hp or at least the R8 was having some serious issues impacting its performance.

They kept blaming the temperature and altitude for the R8's poor performance, yet it didn't seen to be affecting the 997 in the least. Although near the end of the program they did admit that the mods to the R8 where a fairly new development and needed more tuning, but he damage may already have been done...my employees are already telling me how slow and underpowered the R8 is and how badly the Porsche humiliated it; oh-well, I think I'll keep it anyway!
AS RSMR8 stated, they should have used a TT from someone with more R8 experience and the Audi would probably have made us all proud.

I didn't see this episode, but I can just imagine how a factory tuned car might whip an aftermarket car like a rented mule. Having sold in-house developed aftermarket supercharger kits for the last ten years, I've seen plenty of BS horsepower numbers from tuners.

It takes A LOT of work to reliably make power all day every day. Often, an installation might spike to some crazy hp number, but if you look at the janky horsepower graph, and area under the torque curve, the tune up sucks. Also, tune ups which make great dyno numbers sometimes don't work well on the street. Dynos are great for tuning, but cars often perform differently on the pavement.

It's a shame the Auto Union came off badly, but who in their right mind thinks they can smoke a Porsche Turbo without a very large professional army of ducks, all in very neat rows.

just saw this last night. was frustrating to watch indeed. the show overall is more showmanship than actual objective testing, however. one or the other invariably gets the jump on 0-100 or track events. (watch any episode)

re: data. i echo the thought that the R8 had major tuning issues. based on the numbers- weight vs hp vs tranny- on both cars the R8 made no more than 550 hp. the cold water spray by the R8 tuner people on the engine was as laughable as it was sad.

My wife happens to walk by and catch a glimpse of that episode. She asked if the R8 really that slow?

The episode came on during lunch while at the track with Audi Club, so the whole group was watching. Seemed to me that 300 lb weight advantage of the P-car made the outcome very predictable.
