    SD card question

I have had no luck getting the content of an SD card to play in random (mix) order. Music is organized on the card by artist, then by album, with the files inside the nested folder. I can get the system to play the content of one folder at random, but I want the system to play all the songs on the card in random order.

Just tried creating a top level "music" folder and dumping all the artist folders in that. No change. I thought I had it working when I first got my car, but now can't duplicate the feat. Any help will be appreciated.

My memory is fuzzy, but don't you have to be in the top level folder when you initiate the mix mode?

That makes sense. I created a top level folder just for that purpose. The manual says you have to be in folder repeat mode before mix will work. What happens is it goes into the first folder and stays there. Maybe the manual is wrong about having repeat turned on.

I think I remember reading that there may also be a limit to how many files can be in a folder or top layer. This restriction may be different with the 2009 and older unit compared to the 2010+ model.

You may want to try a smaller number files and see if that helps.

    Re: SD card question

I can't get my SD card to randomize any music other than what's in a folder. It won't randomize music from all the folders.

If you're structure is a folder for each artist, then it will randomize in those folders, but won't do the entire card. I was quite bummed that it worked that way.

To get your card to randomize, you'll need to just pull all the individual song files out of their respective folders and dump everything into the card w/o any sort of folder sorting.

This is with at 2010 head unit.

    Re: SD card question

    Dear Ignomini, Quick question.

when I put my MP3 songs on a SD, not all songs play on the MMi. I can't figure out why?! I have made sure everything is in MP3 format and not MP4 but still no luck.

I use an iMac. It seems that the songs from iTunes store even though converted to MP3 do not show up on the R8 MMi.

    Thanks a bunch.

    Re: SD card question

KfabR8 - that's exactly what's happening to me. Pulling the songs out of the folders is easy enough, but it sucks. I've also come to realize the system won't recognize iPod content on my iphone 4, but it does recognize the new ipod nano. I'm thinking about just leaving a nano permanently in the car. It would be easier to manage content on a nano than manually update an SD card anyway.

Kiran - off the top of my head, I don't know the answer. In the old days, you had to write music from iTunes to disc, then re-import the disc as mp3 files (as if you were importing a regular music CD). this broke the copy protection. I paid to "upgrade" all my music when itunes went DRM free. Maybe that has something to do with it. Home sick today, so maybe I'll wander out and do a litle experimenting.
