    Talking New R8 owner!

Hello gentlemen, (ladies as well, if any)

I couldn't find the typical "new member" section on this forum, so I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. After joining about 2 weeks ago, I was unable to post or start any thread. I have sent at least two messages to the moderators using the contact us title at the top right hand corner of this page to no avail.

So I decided to become a premium member, and there it was, my pass to this dedicated forum to R8 owners! I just wish I would have known you had to pay to have this access two weeks ago!

    Anyways, here's my story.....
Have been into cars all my life. Anything from Corvettes, Vipers, Bmw's, and my last car I just sold, was a Maserati Gransport.

After a recent divorce, I had intended to sell some of my toys, and concentrate on buying a home (just sold the house we owned together, and I've been renting a place for about a year).

So I sold the Maserati, and figured I'd make my home purchase now, and lay low on cars till next spring at the least. WRONG!! Started looking at cars immediately after the Maserati sold, and started looking at 05-06 F430's, and 06-07 Gallardos. Then I realized I would have absolutely no warranty should something go wrong. Started looking at the R8''s, and I realized again, that this appears to be a true 'supercar', and I would get a nice peace of mind having a 4 year warranty to boot.

While the Maserati turned heads like you wouldn't believe,
and had a sticker of 125k in 06, I paid less than half that for the car in early 09 with only 2,000 miles on it! Talk about depreciation!!

Needless to say, I've never spent anywhere near this kind of money on one given 'toy'. Being single now, and the fact that I am a true car enthusiast, left me with no choice..... Enjoy what you're truly passionate about, life's too short to look back in regret.

Enough with that, on to the car now!!

Although I am still waiting for my transporter to pick the car up and deliver it, (getting anxious now) here are the specs.

2010 (V8) in Ibis white, with Tuscan brown interior. This car has a mix of the Tuscan brown on the door panels as well. Definitely helps tie-in the seats to the rest of the interior!! Only 1,000 miles.

    ENHANCED LEATHER PACKAGE

    CARBON FIBER ENGINE COMPARTMENT TRIM

    LED HEADLIGHTS

    CARBON FIBER INTERIOR INLAYS

    CARBON FIBER SIDEBLADE

    AUDI NAVIGATION PLUS

    PREMIUM PACKAGE

    BANG & OLUFSEN SOUND

    CARBON FIBER EXTERIOR MIRRORS

    BLACK ALCANTARA HEADLINER

    CARBON FIBER DOOR SILLS

19 INCH POLISHED WHEELS (Along with these, the car has a set of brand new Black HRE wheels and tires).

    a $145,150 sticker on it.

I am looking forward to learning as much as possible about these cars, and someday, hope to be able to contribute as well.

Great story and a great choice among the many options for a fine driving car. As a relatively new R8 owner myself coming from a variety of machines, mainly BMWs and Porsches, I'm finding the R8 to be a wonderful balance of performance and sophistication. It will be interesting to hear how it lands with you over time :-)

Your car looks to be beautifully appointed! You did not mention whether it is the V8 or V10 motor? It would also be interesting to hear where you got it and who put the first 1,000 miles on it? Enjoy it when it arrives!!

Great attitude joining as a Lifetime Member .... seems like you're planning on keeping it for a while :-)

Welcome fellow enthusiast !! The R8 is a necessary ride in my stable, as she is always ready to get me to where I need to be-and on time. NVRL8R8 is one awesome moniker. Would make a GR8 license plate !!!!!!!

Thanks much! I figured the MSRP would be a dead give away on the engine size. lol
As much as I wanted a V10, (especially after recently coming from an E46 M3 with 622 RWHP) I just couldn't swing it right now. I need to buy a home very soon, and probably should have waited to make a purchase like this until afterwards.
After talking with many people, it seems I got this car for a very good price, and it probably wouldn't have been around should I have decided to purchase a property first.

Oh yes, the car was owned by a very wealthy 70+ year old gentlemen in the Virginia area. A true car enthusiast that is mainly into Porsches, but enjoys all the latest and newer modeled vehicles as well.

    Thank you Sir! (Harrison?)

I am currently trying to think of a license plate. In the state of Illinois, you can not intermix letters and numbers. (numbers can only be at the end of any sequence, followed by a space).
Not to mention the specialty plate I am wanting only allows up to 4 letters/numbers.
What to do, what to do......

Congrats on the new toy and the option list seems pretty perfect!

I think "R8" would be a nice plate, assuming you're the first...

    Re: New R8 owner!

Welcome to the wonderful world of R8 ownership and this forum. It's the most satisfying on road vehicle I've ever owned.

Waiting on transport??? Go get it and drive it home!!! It's a wonderful long haul machine. I picked up my first one in Houston, sight unseen, and drove it back to Ohio and the second one came home a couple months ago from CA.

    Get in and drive!

I'm jealous of your extended leather interior. I really miss the look and especially the smell that it gives the car. The non-enhanced interior is bland, and well... pretty much sucks.

    - and from someone that's recently gotten out of a long relationship, congrats on being single again. It's a fine way of life! - at least from my perspective.

Thank you! Look forward to possibly buying a few goodies for it in the future.

Thanks man, still can't believe I spent this much on a car, but I can only justify it because I have just loved cars since I was a kid.
It's about an 800 mile drive, but work is very busy right now, and I was unable to do it the past week due to that. I will be able to take some time off after Wednesday this coming week, and if my transporter can not be there by then, well then I will definitely be getting some seat time myself. Not to mention, I too bought sight unseen! Never did that before!!

Well I'm glad my original post included ladies in my introduction as well!!
Very cool.... I have a female friend who drives a Murcielago. Very rare to see women truly into cars at all, let alone exotics!!

    Thanks much!!
