R8 vs. Ferrari (TV commercial and reality)

Now I love my new R8, but I have been in love with Ferrari's since I was a boy and have owned two. I have thrown a few parties at my house and folks always want to see my new toy. I am amazed that the R8 has been getting a bigger reaction than my Ferrari and people tend to say "that Ferrari is beautiful, but this thing is the bomb!" Almost without exception, folks go how wild for the unique sci-fi look of the R8. Although more stealthy in color than the Ferrari, it also gets more reaction in public than the Ferrari.

Pretty amazing and nice to see. Personally, I don't compare it to my Ferrari, in looks or performance. The R8 stands on its own as a simply amazing car and I just love it.

I am sure people have seen this commercial, but it is one of my favorites.

Here in Guernsey we have a charity sprint event next Saturday October 23rd, the closest you could describe it to is a quarter mile sprint event only ours is held on a closed-off public road because the island is too small to warrant a dedicated track.

The event has been opened to the public and limited to 100 places, I am taking part and specifically requested number 8 meanwhile another local with an R8 will have number 88.

Our two R8's will fortunately outnumber the lone Ferrari which is taking part on the day

My wife and I attended some reception gig at our Audi dealer a couple of months ago (actually is was a different brand but same owners). They had all of the "nice" cars parked in front as sort of an impromptu car show. There was quite a variety of stuff there including an F430 that I thought was very cool. Most everyone else didn't seem to think so since there were all checking out the R8. My wife thought this was quite amusing as did I.

You know I loved my R8. Loved the V10 and the car, etc etc. But, you park my 458 next to the R8 and the R8 doesn't get a lot of glances. Still a funny commercial though.

I think this sentiment is correct. I love my R8, and would never buy a Ferrari, but would never convince myself into believing that the general population would put the R8 into the same league as a Ferrari. For most, Ferrari is the ultimate car brand, no matter how great the R8 or any other car is.
