Fuel stabilizer for reduced winter driving

Given that I don't drive my R8 much in the winter, I was considering adding fuel stabilizer and wondered if anyone else had done that.

If you won't go through a tank of gas in a long period of time use Stabil:

    http://www.goldeagle.com/brands/stabil/default.aspx

This stuff works wonder on keeping gasoline fresh. Used exclusively for storing anything with fuel for any period of time over 3-4 months from cars down to logging chainsaws, never one problem.

If you will be going through a tank of gas every month or so you don't really need to do it.

You might want to get confirmation from Audi, whether STABIL will void your warranty. The wrong oil or failure to maintain, could void your warranty.

    Harrison-

It's fuel stabilizer, not oil. It goes in with a tank of gas, it's far better for your fuel system than ethanol, which is corrosive, and you get that in nearly every tank of gas now a days. Hell they're pushing 15% now for 2007+ vehicles.

This stuff is commonly used in storage situations the world over.

Good advise Alex. When I used to live in Oregon, we used it all the time on different equipment from tractors and saws to boats and RVs.

For winter, I would put in a full tank of Shell 91 and a good dose of Stabil.

Full tank of Shell premium with Stabil in the tank.

Nice day here in the Cincinnati area. Dry roads and mid 60s. Had fun zooming around. Lots of thumbs up from drivers today. Had one guy point to the engine and then to his ear, so I dropped two gears and he smiled wildly.

Lightbulb Re: Fuel stabilizer for reduced winter driving

That was a "for instance". I have never heard of an oil stabilizer. Just curious what Audi might have to say about using fuel stabilizers in the gas tank, and which , if any, Audi recommends. Sorry to confuse. Personally, I try to avoid the use of fuel additives in any of my engines...by running clean fresh fuel through them as often as possible.

Stabil is more than fine for any fuel driven engine. I've used it every winter, for every vehicle I have owned that was stored for over 3 months at a time.
