    I weighed my car

I weighed my car the other day when I got back from the track, and thought I'd share the weight. Nothing in the car except for 1/2 tank of gas. Its a 2009 so a V8, manual transmission, all USA options except Alcantara headliner. Modifications include about 3/4 clear bra, Chasecam, the STaSIS supercharger & exhaust, track pads, and Toyo R888 tires (235/295) on OEM rims. This does include the standard tool kit plus a quart of oil.

The Audi website lists the 2011 V8 standard weight at 3,605. Add 10 gallons of gas at 7 lbs/gallon and that is 3675. My car weighed 3701, so the 26 lbs additional includes the supercharger and its intercooler (water radiators) and the options (convenience pkg, nav, B&O, enhanced leather, carbon fiber trims, etc; everythng BUT the alcantara headliner), the clear bra, a couple of pounds of video and data recorder in the glove box, less the weight savings for the STaSIS exhaust.

    Re: I weighed my car

Thanks for sharing, I always wondered the real weight. Don't forget about the Stasis exhaust you have, Thats about 30 lbs less than the stock one. Once my Supercharger goes on this week I will have pretty much same setup as you so now know my weight. They list the V10 manual at 3715 lbs so looks like we get more power with less weight still

Thanks for the info. Seeing this has me thinking about an exhaust again just for the rear weight savings.

Good catch! I forgot about the change to the exhaust. I'll edit the original post.

Actually, I spent all day yesterday removing the STaSIS exhaust and changing back to the OEM exhaust. With the STaSIS supercharger and the STaSIS exhaust the car is really loud. We are going to Sears Point for Audifest next weekend, and then Laguna Seca on Monday and Tuesday immediately following, so I wanted to make sure the car passes the 92db sound check at Laguna Seca. Heck, it may even be too loud for the 103db limit at Sears Point!

(What a relief driving home from the shop last night; the car is back to a quiet and civilized sound level. It's pleasant again to drive on the street, but I know I'll really miss that banshee howl when running the car wide open!)

I'll try to remember to re-weigh the car today and post the new weight. Of course, the gas load will probably be different. Darn, I should have weighed the two exhausts when I had both out the car.
EDIT: I weighed the exhausts the next time I swapped:

(Man, that is a LOT of disassembly and reassembly work -- I won't be doing the exhaust swap on a regular basis.)

Ah, I'm glad to hear that you've changed back to stock. That STaSIS setup was painfully loud to my (unfortunately tender) ears. Too many years of loud rock 'n roll and now I suffer for it.

Did OEM finally get a lift?

One day I'll have to head that way and come do a track day with you at one of those legendary tracks.

    Re: I weighed my car

I weighed the car today with the stock exhaust. This time it weighed 3,738 lbs. Changes from the weight I got the other day (first post in this thread) include:
    * Swap out the STaSIS Exhaust for the OEM exhaust,
    * More gas in the car (the gauge reads a little over 3/4 tank),
    * PZero Trofeo tires (larger size, 245/305) but still on stock rims.

I also weighed the STaSIS exhaust I removed yesterday - it weighs 38.1 lbs. The stainless was highly polished when it was new in July. It has certainly aged to a beautiful straw color!

Harry, The door pillar says GVWR = 4,266 lbs.

P.S. The first time I weighed it today, the weight I posted was 20 lbs heavier. After scratching my head for awhile, I realized it was due to all this stuff I forgot to take out of the trunk! I've edited this post to show the correct weight.

    Re: I weighed my car

@Kfab: The lift is in my shop. Take a break from winter and come visit. We'll find a car to put you in!

Taken today. The car is all back together and road tested!

@Harrison: I know you've had your bumpers off, and that inspired me to dig into mine. Kids, don't do this at home without a shop manual. Lots of hidden fasteners.

I had the wrong weight in today's previous post, I've corrected it.

    Re: I weighed my car

Oops - I saw OEM and instantly thought of Rich's place. I was wondering how he'd put it in at an angle against the back wall.

If I head that way, I'll bring my car. Have truck, trailer and will travel! For that matter, I'll be in Phoenix for February. - but I won't have room for the all the stuff that comes out in Feb if I put the car in the trailer - Desert car and two bikes in the truck, everyone else's bikes in the trailer. No room for the R8. Hmmm.. wonder what shipping runs.

    Re: I weighed my car

My posts earlier today were from my cellphone while working at the shop. I cleaned up the posts and added some pictures.

@Kfab: MNGolfer is threatening to come out for one of our winter track events, maybe the two of you can join forces for a deal on transport!?

You KNOW you NEED your desert fix! Where the road runs straight to the horizon, then suddenly surprises you with a set of fast twisties through an alien landscape. These cell pics were taken last week on a trip with some Corvette buddies to Spring Mountain for the official ZR1 school. I came back through Death Valley where there is some great road and loads of stunning scenery. Needing both hands for the task of the moment, I didn't take any photos of some of the better twisty bits going over the mountains into and then out of Death Valley.
