    Aftermarket Bucket Seats

Has anyone installed Aftermarket Bucket Seats? or retrofitted Audi Bucket Seats or GT Seats?

    My questions are:

    1. How do you disable the side airbag? VAGCOM?
    2. Any issues with mounting base?
    3. What brand model did you choose?

Thanks for the help. My used R8 came with the standard seats and I wanna install race harness for track days!

    Question Re: Aftermarket Bucket Seats

Seat-belt warning lights and sounds need to be dealt with. IF stock is removed. What is the procedure here?

    Harrison,
I'm going to address this under Performance Modifications/Lightweight Track Wheels in order to limit the topic to one thread.

Roci, maybe it's better to move a discussion of a different, but specific subject, to a completely new thread that reflects that new subject in the thread's name. That way people in the future can use proper Search functions and expect the best results.

    Maybe this will help?:

Is this your setup Bodhii? Do the front airbags still work? How did you disable side airbags?

    Re: Aftermarket Bucket Seats

I'm thinking of doing Recaro Sportster CS. Will be using for both track and street. With some weight saving...
How much was the PPI roll bar? Where did you buy? Install ok?

    Thanks!

    Re: Aftermarket Bucket Seats

I have asked my Audi program guy for the software info and will pass it on when he gives some to me.

The PPI harness bar went in OK. It is well made, steel; very strong and over-priced. Its also a very tight fit, but it does fit perfect. Understand that this is NOT a full crash/ roll bar system. The harness bar and harness would add some significant extra support and safety in some crash situations, but it does NOT move the system into any type of approved racing/ roll bar/cage protection system.

The Recaro Pilot Point seats are great. But larger guys beware. I'm a 34" waist and the fit is perfect, but slightly snug.

I used a SPEEDWARE MOTORSPORTS AUDI S4 (B7) SEAT BRACKET with a slider. Almost a perfect fit. Had to drill 2 new holes in the bracket.

If you track your car, you cannot believe how completely inadequate the USA's OEM R8 seats really are, until you try some proper racing sport seats. For serious track driving, new seats are a must. And those **** OEM seats weighed a TON!!!

I laugh now whenever I think of all of the dramatic contortions I would have to do to brace myself adequately going into any given turn when I used the original OEM seats.

But remember that these beautiful Recaro racing seats are extremely Spartan in having NONE of the comfort adjustments that one regularly enjoys in a luxury type supercar. The install is considerable work. So swapping out seats regularly is not a realistic option.
