Went And Bought 2 R8'S today

Start off with a somewhat sad day today as my much beloved R8 V8 has been given its marching orders.

Really will miss this R8 that has given me so much joy and enjoyment over the past 2 years.

The roots of all this really started a few weeks ago when invited to attend the Audi Track performance drive at Phillip Island for the release of the Spyder.

Really wanted that extra power and my dealer has come up with a deal to good to refuse...

I have ordered a V10 coupe today which will arrive around April but I also purchased a Ibis White V10 Manual Spyder which arrives next week to drive during summer whilst waiting for my coupe order.

The thing that got me over the line in all of this is that I have on the contract a guaranteed buy back of the Spyder that you would equate to virtually nil deprecation on the Spyder buy price.

A couple of conditions apply such as Km use up to 8000k and returned as new except for normal wear and tear.

Now in regards to the pricing of the Spyder I have committed not to publicly state its buy price as it would upset the market but if you think of discounting % in double digits and starting with a 2 you are on the right track.

So the net result is I get a V10 Spyder at a steal to use in summer and then have a guaranteed buyback when the coupe arrives.

I ultimately want the coupe for more track focus.

Congrats, This really is a sign of what a great car the R8 is. Have had mine for a year and a half and thats longer than I usually own a car before getting bored and wanting something new. There is nothing out there that I want more though so only option is R8V10. Figure to trade mine in for one and put the goodies I have on mine would have cost me over $85k. Decided better option was spend less than half that and Supercharge mine, only have 9k miles and with warranty I will drive it a couple more years and see what R8 is available then. Car has been is shop for a few days getting install, Can't wait till pick up this afternoon

That's a great deal gazza. Quite impressive, especially in light of the posts about the Spyder going 50K+ over msrp. here in the States.

Now you'll have to work out the GT deal - especially if you're planning on being track oriented.

I have to agree with you guys and the overall enjoyment factor these cars bring. If I'd not wrecked my first one, it would be sitting in the garage sporting the mods I did to it's replacement. I'm at 2.5 years of ownership and am happier each day with it.

And, as you're doing Cab, the best way to improve the fun factor is to go for more HP.

You're going to love the supercharger. Second gear and the little yellow dash icon's flashing away as the rear end's trying to break free, hit third and the same thing happens. Yea, you'll like the supercharger a lot. Keep the ESP button ON for the first few weeks.

Well Gazza, its a no brainer of a deal, well done, i hope you enjoy the Spyder as much as i am doing, i bet you wont want to hand it back when the coupe arrives!!

Couldn't agree more with some of the comments that the R8 is a unique car in the way it does so many things so well.

Supercharger was a very serious consideration but unfortunately it all came down to a couple of hurdles.

Firstly car regulations here with modifications/emissions along with a total abandonment of Audi warranty which I still had a year to run.Awesome great product though!

The dealer continues to whisper in my ear still about the one GT he is getting but I can get more with Renm and save huge dollars.

As for wanting to keep the spyder..you never know but nothing for me bets a coupe and its harder core appearance and shape sitting on a set of HR springs.

So what's the status of your GT-R? Is it mostly for track use now?

GT-R remains my daily driver and alternate Track car at least one a month.

Might be a subconscious thought on my part to upgrade to ultimately a 600hp V10 so that a R8 can kick its ar#e around the track on the watch.

For all its quirks I am still first in line for the new model 2012 in March 2011.

No Daveys here..but almost too good to be true.

However you will note that paint is still to be confirmed on the coupe and I do have a wife who doesn't drive

Just a side note is a reminder to watch out for those dealer guys cause they are a sneaky bunch.

I was naive enough to think that I got invited to the Audi Performance drive because they liked me...shh did I get taken for a ride.
