2010 RNS-E Retrofit with MMI interface Report

As indicated in another thread, I just purchased a 2009 R8......

I wanted the IPOD adapter to work and have complete interface into the sound system. So I called up Rich from OEM plus. He provided the MMI interface and because the 2008-2009 cars cannot be equipped with the MMI, you have to upgrade your entire head unit to the 20010-2011 RNS-E. Total price right around the 3k mark for the materials.

Had a local place install it, took them about 2-3 hours with no issues. I can say there is a big difference in the quality of the display on the 2010 system compared to the 2008-2009. Also, the system is much faster.

The ipod is now integrated completely into the car and all of the parts that were supplied by OEM Plus are Audi parts, so it is all stock. Rich really went out of his way to make himself available to me and my install guys.

Did you get the reverse camera to work with no problems? If so, OEMPlus should talk to those guys


also, wishful thinking, but does it bring A2DP?

Yes, the camera worked with no problems. My car had the camera to begin with... that might make the difference.

What is A2DP?

Don't let anyone "upgrade" the radio - it's a recent service from Audi. It has something to do with the tonal control of the radio, but it knocks out the camera.

Can you get me contact info for who did the install? I can't get any help with my issue.

What is A2DP?

As does mine and opie's... opie hasn't had success with OEMP and they canceled my order for the same kit because they couldn't get the camera to work, and now it magically works for you... le sigh. It sucks there's so few games in town when it comes to this stuff.

A2DP is wireless streaming of music so you don't need to hook up cables. Not so much needed in the R8, but cars like the S and Q5 place the connector in the glovebox, so it's **** near impossible to set up easily when you get in and out the car.

*edit* again, I found something else that may work for the A2DP, so there's another game in town when it comes to that, but it still comes back down to getting the MMI HU to work.. gonna ping rich

Hey Guys,

Did not have any issues installing the system from OEMPlus. Everything was just plug and play according to my install guys. The only issue we had was that Rich accidentally sent us the wrong IPod cable.
