R8 CO2 emissions

Guys,

Out of curiosity, why is the 4.2 engine so emission high ? I'm getting a manual spyder at the end of the year and the figures are quoted at 339 g/km. This is more than the RS6 (5 litre), much more than the RS5, more than equivalent Astons, M3, etc and nearly as much as the Spyder V10. Considering the engine has just had a revamp for 2011, I was surprised the numbers weren't a little better than this.


p.s not affecting my buying decision of course !

An M3 is 263, a 911 turbo is around 275, Ferrari California 299, etc

Emissions on these types of cars are a non read for me.

You can probably guess I will never ever buy a Prius but I do contribute to the earths well being by only driving my R8 on the weekends. LOL

back when the v8 came out it compared well with the likes of the vantage, but there really doesn't seem much excuse for it being so high now when compared to the rs5 which has a more powerful v8 - although that does come with a dual clutch gearbox as standard.

The RS5 is only 252 but I thought it was based on the same engine - wonder why this engine never made it to the R8 ?

the rs5 came out a lot later than the v8 r8 which shared the engine of the old rs4 but with dry sump and different mappings. I suspect a big proportion of the co2 drop is down to the transmission.
