    Engine bay lights

    Hi Guys

I have a 2008 V8 R8 (UK) and im thinking of buying the carbon fibre engine bay surrounds, but notice on the Audi R8 configurator (on their website) it says you must have the light package to choose this extra. I am unsure if I have the light package. The website says (- includes auto-dimming rear view mirror, light and rain sensors and LED lights illuminating footwell and engine compartment). How do I know if I have the light package or not. I know I have the rain sensors.

    Best Regards
    Mark

Look in the engine bay if you have the lights which illuminate the engine bay, simple as that. They are near the bottom of the struts which keep the lid open.

You should have the lights - I've not seen nor heard of an R8 w/o them.

Push any of the internal light buttons (map reading lights).
Look in the engine bay and see if there's a pair of lights on.
I hope this works on an 08...

You can also hit the home coming button (the little rectangular button on the light control switch panel). Shut the car off (with the lights in Auto mode) and look in the engine bay - see any lights?

Or, just look at the panels in the engine bay: where the struts that hold the hatch open attach to the engine bay - there is one light on each side, near that point.

If you decide to go ahead with the conversion and can use a screw driver, here's a set of DIY instructions on how to get it done.

Getting your hand behind the panel to unplug the light is probably the hardest aspect. Once you get the panel out, pop the light out and then just run the pigtail through the hole in the CF panel, plug light into the pigtail and then pop the light back in. It's quite simple once you see how it works.

Thanks for the tips guys. I just tried and dont think I have the engine bay lights. Wonder if they would be hard to fit. Gonna try installing the carbon fibre bits myself as soon as they arrive doesnt sound that complicated from the guides ive read.

They'll fit right into the openings that should be in the carbon parts. It's an OEM Audi part, so that's easy enough to get.

As far as getting them to light up? There's a possibility that the wire harness has the plugs already in it (cheaper to make one harness and not use particular pieces). Don't know if they'll be active though.

For what it's worth, I never see the engine bay lights in mine. I just recently discovered that they light up when you turn on the interior lights and I've owned an R8 for almost 2.5 years.

Hey, how about putting your location in your profile. With as many markets as the R8's sold in, it helps with certain questions at times.
