Hey everyone! Porsche guy (dont hate me) here thinking about switching sides.
Hope to learn a lot about the R8 and maybe move from my GT3 to an R8. The more I see one the more I want to forgo my 997 tt plans.![]()

I don't think there's sides here.. all the same family, just different sides of the square. Welcome!
2009 Audi R8 (Silver)
2010 Audi S5 (Silver)
2011 Audi Q5 (Sexy Brown)
2012 Tesla Model S (Soon?)
Welcome aboard. Still am a Porsche guy with a 993 Turbo. Frankly, the two cars individual enough that I don't think of it as an either/or situation. 997 Turbo would be different though, thoroughly modern car whereas the 993 feels ever so subtly vintage next to the R8.
Can't go wrong with either. I drive both an R8 (V10) and a GT3. Completely different cars imo.
Audi provides great performance while affording a near luxurious ride. GT3 has plenty of amenities, but is so much more visceral. It does feel like a "race car". Love them both!

I have been a porsche guy for 15 years. I have owned '97 turbo, '02 turbo, '07 turbo (highly modified), 2 C4S and my last porsche I traded for my R8 v10 was the new GT3 ! I loved them all, particularly the GT3 (better than my turbo's), but . . . R8V10 is a totally different experience. I would not trade back. It is truly a supercar. The Lambo engine is awesome, the ****pit is more comfortable and it drives spectacularly. I have a Stassis exhaust on mind which is outstanding. I would not think twice about it.

I too come from the Porsche camp and agree with the above comments.
I qualify myself as the previous owner of 8 Porsches including a 07 Turbo (slightly modded) which I sold as it didn't have the visceral appeal I expect from a Porsche. I am the current owner of a highly modded 993 Turbo and a 993 C4 Cab.
The R8 is more like the 997 Turbo than any of the air cooled Porshes or the GT3. I've driven a 997 GT3 on track but never owned one. The R8 is a well balanced comfortable car that could be used as a DD or a fun car. It has good throttle response and of course no lag, even the 997TT has lag by comparison. The only downside is lack of luggage space and that you should tune the engine to provide the power it was designed for.
Subjectively I think it is one of the best looking cars out there with its understated elegance.
Let us know what you decide.

1996 993TT Polar Silver, RS Tuning, 531 PS, 800 NM
2008 BMW M5 6SPD DD
Why not keep them both, I'm such a Le Mans fan I'd actually keep a GT3, a Saleen, a Vette, an F430 in the stable lol (if I could)

Audi R8 Brilliant Red R-tronic

All my previous sports cars have been Porsches with the exception of one M3 along the way. The R8 is so much more refined, startling in looks and a little less visceral in driver connection. Tough choice, but I'm not going back at this point unless I get disappointed by reliability.

Previous machines ... a variety of Porsches (E, SC, 930, 993)
traded in my '09 997tt for the R8 V10 and I am very happy I did. Both are great cars, but the V10 engine with the R8 styling put me over the edge. good luck.
Went from an 07 TT to the 09 R8 and have NO regrets
