Slight knocking noise, any experience?

Hi all

When driving at slower speeds over slightly bumpy/uneven surfaces I have noticed a slight knocking noise, its hard to pin point but I think it might be coming from the front left somewhere....

Has anyone else experienced this or is it normal??

There is no noise over speed bumps etc etc, just slightly uneven roads....

(This is when driving normally, its not the well known knock when on full steering lock)

Any input would be great!

Not normal. I'd start by checking for loose stuff in the trunk (simple stuff first, always!). Next the wheel bolt torques (most likely culprit!), followed by loose body and trim panels. Next, check wheel bearings, suspension and steering for any play. If those are OK, then look at the CV joints.

I have had this on my Spyder from new, been told its nothing to worry about but its a bit emabarassing when driving over cobbles and it can clearly be heard by others, 6,500 miles and nothing has fallen off! i just put it down to the soft top mechanism on mine.

Mines more of a slight knock from under the car somewhere... sometimes I think its from the front, other times from the transmission tunnel area

I had this on my 09 v8. I took it to Audi and both front suspension mounts or blocks (can't remember) were changed under warranty. I think it was quite a pricey job. Over $1000. It only happened on cobble stones as well. Now its gone and drives very smooth, not to mention those pesky speed bumps.

Bit off topic but what's the R8 like compared to your old Z4 M coupe?

How is the ride height especially, do you have to be more careful going up inclines?

Hi!

The traction on the R8 is amazing in comparison. We've had alot of ice and snow conditions here over the past 2 weeks, so I haven't been able to fully enjoy its handling.

I do have to consider the ride height a little more than the Z4, for example my friends drive is quite steep, and the Z4 would just drive on, where as I had 3 of the guys watching the front splitter and side sills with the R8 at the weekend, and they were all quite close!

Overall though, the R8 is an amazing car, and I am very happy to have made the move from the Z4M
