    400KM later... ESP FAULT!!!

    This is sad

My week old 2011 R8 V10 R-Tronic is motionless in the garage.

Two days ago... nice cool sunny morning... I decided to go for a ride in my NEW R8. This is my second R8 replacing my OLD 2009 R8 V8. AMAZING machine... WAY smoother than the V8. R-Tronic on the V10 is MUCH better (even after all recalls done on V8).

Anyways... now the car is exhibiting the following:

    1. ESP Fault!.
    2. VERY rough idle (can't rev the car over 2000 or 3000 RPM).
    3. Putting the car in D stalls the engine.

Any idea what the problem is???

Do you have a vag com? Might see something in a scan. sounds like car is in limp mode, Have had that happen but turning on and off car fixed it.

I don't have any tools to check... I am guessing it more than just limp mode... The car stalls if I try to drive it.

On and Off does not help.

I tried to disconnect what I think is the two MAF sensors... Still same issue

Sounds like the dealer needs to come and pick up you car. Your location would assist forum members in helping you.

Audi Middle East have been quick in replying to my call. In fact they called a few minutes ago to check on the quality of the recovery service. I live in the United Arab Emirates. Local dealer is required by Audi to tend to ALL R8 owners upon arrival. No prior booking required. We'll see how that goes. Car is going to be checked on Saturday.

It is just too weird an issue for a new car IMHO!

Looking at what might have caused this issue is difficult without the right diag. tools... But... I noticed that the engine bay had a been polished/cleaned with a plastic protectant. I can see evidence of overspray everywhere (see attached).

I posted video of the startup sequence. Can't post here. Just search (Audi R8 ESP Fault).

Initial diagnosis seems to be an electric issue. Diag tools can't seem to 'communicate' with Control Unit 2.

Can you post the url w/o having the http://www in the link? I can fix it and make it a live link for you.

Also, would you mind putting your location in your profile? It can help at times with location specific questions.

    Thanks... updated Location.
The video is posted at youtube.com/watch?v=GDRde-Q5uYk

Funny how dealers react to such issues

RECAP: car is less than a week old. I drove it 3 times only.
Current status: Car is workshop with a damaged ECU 2 (Left). They called me to inquire today afternoon to 'check' if I did any 'chip tuning'.
They say the control unit was erased!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question: Do you need to disconnect the battery to safely remove the ECU?!? They did not!!!

It's my understanding that the battery MUST be undone before removing the ECUs. I know that it has to be done with my RS6, without exception.

I just called my Audi tech (buddy of mine) and asked him about unplugging the ECU w/o removing the battery ground. I'll post back as soon as he lets me know.

    Thanks for adding your location.
