How did you purchase your R8 (dealer, online, etc.)?

Curious to see how everyone purchased their R8.

- Did you purchase new or used?
- Did you purchase at a dealer, private seller, or online and why did you ultimately choose this method?
- If online or private seller, what website did you use to purchase?

I am looking for a Spring 2011 purchase time so any replies/info/suggestions would be much appreciated. I am looking at either a used V8 or a new V10 (not thinking Spyder).

I'm on the sales side of it, so I've seen each of the benefits. Last two new R8's I took deposits on were simply because I had the allocation and a specific date while their local dealerships just kept saying "soon."

If you are willing to settle with color/options you should be fine either way. However, if you're specific on your options, then the dealership method is probably your best bet.

#1 - Used (168 miles, so new technically). Found it on Flea-Bay, but went straight to the dealership (Porsche in Houston), never mentioning that I'd found it on Flea-bay. Dealership's owner purchased it and then drove it, literally, across the parking lot from Audi to Porsche (which he owns also) where he traded it for a 430 that came in right after the R8 showed up.

#2 - Used (11,997 miles). Brokered through OEMplus.

#3(?) - Will be new and am getting ready to talk to my dealer this week about it.

Bought new through a local dealer because it seemed like a good idea to have a relationship with a local dealer. If I were to do it over, I would only buy from a dealer who has an allocation in hand. Audi is completely screwed up with their allocations. I waited almost a year for my dealer to get an allocation while people who ordered behind me got cars from dealers who had allocations but no customers. Getting skipped over left me with a bad feeling toward my dealer (who probably doesn't deserve it) and the sense there will be no additional Audis in my future.

I called dealers around the country after be unsatisfied with local dealers.

Used (high miles in the 20s). Supposed to have been originally owned by one other guy who bought a spyder.

Purchased at Audi dealer. I wouldn't get it from any other place (e.g. non Audi dealership).

Found it through Autotrader.
