Question Whistling Noise in the cabin

I'm getting a slight wind whistle in the cabin above 80 km/h which gets much worse with the heating system fan running. Anyone else have this and suggest any remedies? Thanks, Doug

There's a tiny elf somewhere inside your HVAC system. Find some "Elf Out", use that and it will go away.

I once had a small leaf that was stuck in the HVAC system in our old Passat. It seamed to have worked it's way in from the grating under the windshield. It whistled like CRAZY!...it may be worth investigating something similar to that.

My R8 has also developed a random whistle that changes in pitch and volume depending on vehicle and/or wind speed; it sounds like it's coming from the aft, upper, R/H corner of the cabin, but tracking an intermittent sound has proved to be quite difficult.
The car is going in for service on 29-Nov so maybe...hopefully the tech can find the elusive and annoying sound.
If I learn anything I'll be sure to post the findings.

The noise you speak of might be related to the rubber door seals which seal against the front windows. Perhaps it was removed or moved at some point and was not replaced to the precise Audi specs.

Lightbulb Re: Whistling Noise in the cabin

There is a NEW service update for the Third brakelight. When not sealed properly , lets air into cabin along with a rattle above 100 mph. I had 3 light changes before the new service update came out. Something about improving the seal. I found Audi to be very wastefull changing the complete assembly 3 times when all that was needed was a modification...not complete replacement. The cost of labor and parts has a trickle down effect that eventually reaches the consumer in the form of HIGHER costs. When I was trying to diagnose the source of whistle sound and rattle...Third brakelight was the last place considered.

You Da-Man...After all the searching for gaps and checking seals, it could simply be the third brake light...who'd-a thunk it!
I'll be sure to mention this to the tech; although properly trained/certified, they maintain very few R8's and I've already mentioned a couple of other things to them I have learned on this forum that they were not aware of, so this may be of great assistance to them and myself.

    Thanks a BIG o'l bunch!
