    Analysis Paralysis

Was looking pretty aggressively for an R8 when I stumbled upon an Aston Martin Vantage and thought hmmmmm. For about 75K, that's a very sexy car. I've spent the last two months going back and forth and now I'm more confused than ever. I'd rather be in the 70K price range but Aston's pre-owned warranty has lots of restrictions which could end up costing a bundle if something is not covered. Additionally, there is only one Aston dealer in my entire state. In my gut, I think I would feel more safe with an R8 because there is full warranty and lots of dealers available. But $25k more is quite a chunk of change. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

You only live once, and you can't take it with you...

Some of our UK members have owned one or more of both. Perhaps with Search you would be able to find some of those posts comparing the two. My recollection is that while both cars are huge fun to drive, the ownership experience with the Astons left something to be desired.

Depends which vantage, If it was the v8 then I think I would go with the R8 but if it was the v12 vantage then the aston wins hands down.

But it does depend on what you want if you want performance and style and the branding then v12 aston

else the R8 to me is more track and performance supercar rather than poser

Since its all about show, go with what you think will score you more chicks. As someone here said, you live only once and you can't take the money with you when you're done.

    For $75,000, he's looking at a used V8 Vantage.

Yes, the V8 Vantage only. The R8 would have to be Daytona Gray, 6 spd with light colored interior. Maybe this will help: if the vantage and the R8 were the same 100K price tag, there would be no question that I would want the R8. It's the $25K cheaper price that is messing with my head.

Yeah, I was about to say that too. V12s are double that or more, although it would be a tougher call, R8 V10 vs. V12 Vantage. In my book, more cylinders often tend to win.

ptaylor_9849 - I live in Boston too and plan to get an R8 this spring (no point in getting this car during the brutal Boston winters) so we'll have to go for a ride together once you get yours! I'm just concerned about parking in the city and having other cars bump into it - should be an interesting challenge keeping the car mint.
If you want to drive an R8, StatusRide out of Worcester has an AWESOME exotic car motorcade where you can drive a Lambo, Ferrari F430, Porche 911, Audi R8, and a Bentley for 30 minutes each as you drive around Western Massachusetts. It was the most incredible Wednesday of my life (pricey but soooo worth it). I knew I would love the Audi R8 but after driving it, I fell COMPLETELY in love and came home knowing I will soon be owning that car - it might also be that the state trooper who was our escort let us go over 120MPH on the highway!

Here I am right before I jumped in the R8 for the first time (this is StatusRides car, not mine unfortunately):

Certainly, no one is going to snicker at the guy driving a V8 Vantage. It's a beautiful car for sure, and generally quite rare, even in big cities. But the earlier editions with the 4.3 litre V8 really needed more punch, and those are the ones that are more likely to be found for the $75,000 price range you have in mind.

To me, the R8 (even the 4.2) feels more like a proper supercar. In fact, it's got to be pretty much the best "car" out of all the current batch of supercars, because it's a sportscar you can actually drive year round. In other words, it's got a broader repertoire than virtually all other supercars, with the possible exception of the 997TT.

I'd go for the R8, if my only two choices were that or the Vantage. Just my humble opinion.

Opps my bad was thinking it was £75,000 not $75,000 still wouldn't get a v12 for that

One thing with R8s I'm noticing is there big with young people I know of two under 23 with them in here in england. They don't have the same appreciation as ferrari or Lamborghini or aston martin but there hell of a lot cheaper to own.

A lamborghini Gallardo Spyder with decent miles 07-08 around £95,000 which is about the same as a 2010 V10 R8(maybe even a spyder) with 2000 or below millage.
but then you have running costs lambo would be more same as aston.

like I said depends if you want a racer or a poser
