    Poll: Manual or Auto?

    It seems that the vast majority of 2011 Spyders on sale now are manual 6-speed with very few cars equipped with the automatic clutch transmission. Let's find out how many R8s are represented here with each transmission by voting in the poll. Mine is manual; what's yours? Plus, if you're not yet an owner but intend to be, you can vote, too! Just choose the appropriate response that best describes your intentions.

    Mine is Manual: Love the manual. But I HATE the 'clickety-clack' of the silly metal gated shifter! You feel only the shifter clanking against the metal gate and NOT the actual linkage change underneath. I will go with a super-fast, dual-clutch setup in the future, WHEN Audi finally makes a new, smaller, and lighter weight one for the R8.

    I was all ready to go with a R-Tronic with my spyder but changed back to manual as 99% of my time in the car will be for pleasure and the manual is just more engaging in my opinion. If I was buying a track car then R-tronic would be a no brainer. . . I also love the clickity clack

    I had the MT on my '09 R8, and my new '11 will have it too. I think 10K US is too much for the E-Tronic. I agree, when Audi has the supperfast twin clutch for the R8 then I may drop the extra 10K. But for now, I'll stick with the clickity clack.

    I think thats why so many spyders's are coming in with stick, unlike the coup most will not be every day vehicles and will not be tracked. More a weekend toy for fun runs

    My Spyder is a manual, however most used Spyders in the UK that are for sale have R Tronic, i do wish my future GT could be in manual but its only available in R Tronic, having said that when i drove the GT at the Nurburgring the R Tronic was impresive indeed so i may be a convert by default.

    Would never buy a supercar like the R8 with anything but an R tronic .
    The rev matching in the downshifts and super fast shifts when flat out and the convenience of no clutch peddle around town are spot on.

    Enjoyed the manual more on my test drive, but missed a downshift. Figured I would go with RT for safety reasons. Now manual shifters feel really old school to me - perfect for a TR4 or classic Porsche, but out of place in a spaceship.

    This topic continues to go round and round on our forum but is always interesting.

    My 2 bob is this.

    Commenting from the position of having one of the quickest auto Transmissions on the planet with the GT-R.. Auto's are boring,boring on the road but a must have on the track.

    Of course auto's add convenience on the road but if we are frankly honest the R-tronic is not deserving of such a great car like the R8.

    The latest spyder i drove on the track fast and slow with R-TRONIC still had the duck nod(but much improved)and was savage and hard on the change.

    Manual for me everytime if I have a choice..but of course its a personal choice and preference.
