iPod Interface for R8!?

Hi guys,

I drove my brother's 458 the other day, and besides being jealous of the entire car, I was particularly jealous of his iPod interface.

Is there anyway the R8 system can be upgraded so it can accommodate for an iPod interface.

At the moment I'm using crappy SD cards and of course it only plays MP3 and not MP4. I am driving a 2010 R8 with B&O system.

Anyway, just thought of posting this. Apologies if it's a repeat.

Is your car equipped with a CD changer? If you had ordered the MMI system on a 2010, it includes an iPod interface where the CD changer used to go. Oddly, the interface works with iPods, but won't work with the music player in an iPhone.

The optional MMI won't control the player in an iPhone? Okay, then that is truly a complete waste of money to upgrade to then. The R8 stays with SDHC cards for music then. Shame.

mine works fine. i have my ipod plugged in now and have used the iphone as well. maybe i am not techy enough to know it is not working right. i have 2011 R8 V10.

Which version of the iPhone do you have? I have the same car, but when I plug in my iPhone 4 the audio system says the device isn't recognized. At least the interface works for actual phone usage.

On balance I would rate the whole entertainment system a 5 out of 10. Would up my vote to a six if you didn't have to reset SD cards to Mix every time you turn off the ignition, or if it would Mix all the songs on an SD card, instead of just the songs in one folder. The cheap aftermarket Kenwood in my pickup truck works better than Audi's mess.

I would not say the SD cards were crappy. I have always found them more than adequate.

I guess if you start comparing the old R8 system with a much updated system like in the 458 then you will think that way.
