Lifting the R8 for work with a car lift

    Hi,

I need to get some work on the front done, and prefer to lift it with up with a car lift rather than any other solutions.

Unlike other cars I played with, I can't immediately see the best points under the car for this. I prefer not to try until I'm sure.

Would appreciate to know how you guys do it.

    Thanks

Re: Lifting the R8 for work with a car lift

There are a couple of old threads on lift points if you search. Here is one of them:

    Jack Points

The rear point has an elevated "circle" that can be seen right in front of the rear tire. Front point was harder to find on my spyder but is next to an elevated area behind the front tire. I looked at using my 2-post lift and reviewed the modified lift at my dealer. In my case the modifications would have required a ramp system to get the car higher to clear the arms and custom contact points off of the arms. To much of a hassle so I use a floor lift but all I do is change tires to this point.

We use a two post lift and the lift points described by toecutter. It didn't take too many times jacking the car to get the arms under it to decide we needed ramps. My dealer uses four small aluminum ramps. The Audi training academy uses those plastic ramps which snap together into various configurations, like Legos. I settled on the ramps from Race Ramps which are sixed exactly for this application, and am pleased with them. I will post a link and photo later.

I need a set of those aluminum wedges. Right now I get the car in place, roll the hydraulic jack under it, lift it about 2" and then position the arms from the lift. It's a pain.

The dealership I use uses the wedges and they have a pair of prongs that fit into holes in the floor of the shop to keep them from scooting out when trying to drive up on them.

KfabR8, you will really like the Race Ramp. The model you want is the TrakJax. They are non-slip without needing holes in the floor. Very strong and amazingly lightweight. http://www.raceramps.com/trak-jax.aspx

I purchased all four of mine without lip, like this:

If I were to do it again I think I would order one axle set with the lip and one set without.
My only warning is to keep them well away from hot exhausts (don't store them under the car!), otherwise they are without fault.

+1 on raceramps. I have a set for my enclosed trailer to get clearance on the door ramp. Best system ever.
