    Getting new engine :(

So I decided to drive my R8 on my road trip for the holidays. While I was in Charleston, SC; a light came on telling me I had no oil pressure. Then I got a light saying no coolant. I pulled over and checked the oil level, which was fine. I assumed it would probably be a bad sensor or computer glitch, but not wanting to take any chances, called roadside assistance to pick it up. As it turns out, they found my PTO shaft wasn't working, and there were metal shavings in the oil. Audi is now sending a new engine, but could take up to a month to get it. I had just turned over 10,000 miles.

I'm having a little trouble with Audi and their trip interruption coverage and a loaner vehicle. Does anyone have the number for Audi NA?

    Thanks!

In your manual you will find a phone number for your personal R8 advocate. The phone number I use is 866-892-2834. Hope this helps.

    Laurie,
Very sorry to hear you had a failure. I looked at the pictures in your Gallery, and your R8 is certainly a stunner. Could you please provide a little more information on the failure, as I'm not sure which part you are referring to in your post?

hey. i guess that was the call i got from your car from J., Laurie! sorry to hear. SC is bad news for audi's. i had my TT die on me some yrs ago on my way down to FL while i was passing through.

audi should have no trouble reimbursing you. had you tracked and driven her hard yet? just curious.

So, for milage reporting purposes does this car have 10k miles or 0 miles?

If I'm a future buyer do I want 10k extra miles on the tires, trans, suspension, shocks, electrical, etc than was reported?

Bummer. Metal in the screens is baaaad.

The car is still a 10k miles car. Engine change won't affect that, and changing the odometer (which I guess would take a capable hacker these days) is a crime no matter how many engines you've been through.

Desperado: I am told that the Oil pump and coolant pump are run by a PTO (power take-off) shaft which wasn't functioning. As for where the metal shavings came from, they don't know yet. They are sending the engine back to Germany for failure analysis.

RXBG: Yes, that was my car. I believe I saw yours at Festivals of Speed and Cars & Cafe. Gorgeous car!

The good news is that the dealership received my engine yesterday which is much faster than they originally thought. Now I'm just hoping it will drive the same as it did. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Fear not, it will be just fine. Good to hear that it's coming along much sooner than expected.

One of the first V8 R8's here in the Cincinnati area suffered from an engine failure in the first few miles (sorry, I can't recall - maybe 1K? fuzzy memory here). It's engine was pulled and they put it in the crate the replacement engine came in and sent it right back to the factory. The turn around was just a couple weeks.

Hey Gazza, how long was your car down?
