    420 or 430HP?

Audi seems to be notoriously bad for misinformation. I find conflicting information all over the web. What is the actual HP rating for the 2011 4.2?

    Re: 420 or 430HP?

Most interestingly I have a copy of the Canadian 2011 Audi Fleet brochure and it looks like a 10HP bump for the 4.2 with a TBA for the displacement (more accurate than the rounded up 4.2L). The 5.2 remains the same at 525 bhp.

    Re: 420 or 430HP?

    USA 2011 brochure says 420 HP: See pages 52 & 72:

The difference in various publications could be due to tuning difference in different markets, for example to satisfy different emissions or noise requirements.

There are also differences in the SAE (HP) and DIN (PS) methods of measuring horsepower, so one must be aware of the measurement used when comparing stated power.

My Audi 2011 Full Line brochure says 430HP.

    As does Car & Driver...

I have that same brochure. There are NO dates marked anywhere in that document.

    Re: 420 or 430HP?

Most manufacturers would list the bhp at the crank rather than the wheel for marketing purposes. I'd take it with permanent quattro (and Subaru's AWD) the drivetrain loss amounts to 15-20% loss in power. From my understanding RWD don't suffer as much (around 10%) loss. This would come into play on the straights.

It's 430. I have one of the first 2011 4.2 models produced. The sticker says "4.2L, 430HP DOHC 8-cylinder with FSI direct injection," which is 10 more horsepower than previous 4.2 models.

    Re: 420 or 430HP?

It depends on what month of 2010 the car was built.

They upgraded the 4.2 Lt engine from 420Hp to 430Hp for the R8 Spyder and passed it into the coupe as well.

Confirmed again by my dealer last week...100%

From my recollection this occurred around August 2010.
