Interior lights...

I was just wondering...do the dial controls for your air-conditioning vents light up? Mine do not, but I'm sure I've seen photos (maybe they were European-spec cars) where they do.

I went to my dealership recently and asked why they don't light up and they also weren't sure. They had several other R8s in the showroom, including 2010 and 2011 models, and we tried every single one of them...none light up.

Any reason why this might be?

Just a quick reaction, but I'm glad mine don't light up.

The dials in the yellow circles (if you can call them circles) are the ones I'm referring to.



Why don't you want them to light up? Does anybody's R8 have the dials that light up?

No worries. I should have posted a picture right from the start.

And thanks for checking. If anyone else has a photo of their car where these lights do indeed illuminate, please post it. I suspect it's a European vs. North American market thing, but just want to be sure.

Maybe VAG-COM can get these lights working.... hmm....

No lights in mine either.

I don't recall having any sort of lead on either of the side vents when I replaced them. Those don't have illumination that I'm aware of.

The lead in the pix above may not be for the vent flow control but something else instead - I don't recall a lead there either.

I'll try to remember to look at the diagrams in the service manual tomorrow when I have access to my shop computer. It may shed some light (pun intended!).

Tried the DIS settings and various interior light switches, but couldn't get the HVAC control wheels to light up in my USA 2009.
