    Out of Warranty

    Hi Guys

I will be out of warranty in 2 months and am able to purchase an extended 3 year warranty for around $5,000. Do you think its worth it or should I just risk letting it go out of warranty. I think i will keep the car for another 3 years minimum and have a very good relationship with my mechanic so will be able to get all mechanical problems fixed for mates rates. My mechanic recons I should not get a warranty as he believes Audi will try and riggle out of paying for something anyway. My car has done 25,000 miles.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

    Best Regards
    Mark

    Re: Out of Warranty

    For around $1700 a year..a sound investment I believe.

Without wishing any bad luck, you don,t want to be paying for a engine or gearbox if something terrible goes wrong.

    Re: Out of Warranty

I had a 3 year one for both my Audi Allroad and for the Mercedes E500. I think mine was $2200 for the Audi.

My extended was not through Audi, which may have worked advantageously. I had one of my front air struts go out. I brought it to the Audi dealer, and they looked over the warranty. They contacted the extended warranty company (I can't recall which one), and made sure they said the right things to be covered under it. I got both front air struts replaced (apparently when one goes out, it is best to replace both at the same time), so the warranty paid for itself in this case.

I haven't had to use the E500 one.

Would Audi's warranty have covered that?

    Re: Out of Warranty

Almost everything about your car is expensive to fix, if you're not doing the work yourself. IMO. if you're committed to keeping the car for another three years, it's worth the investment.

Also, when you finally do decide to sell it, having a TRANSFERRABLE warranty gives you a leg up on others for sale without a warranty.

Many also offer a prorated refund if you sell early without claims.

Do it. An extended on my RS6 was $3K so for an R8 that does not sound too bad. The balance of time on most policies is refundable if you sell or something unmentionable happens to the car.

    Re: Out of Warranty

I totally can see you finding a cheaper quote somewhere else. I would say around $4000 seems to be right.
