    Insurance question for Calif. owners

    Hello everyone,
I am shopping for insurance as mine is due for renewal and in anticipation of my R8 (due at beginning of June now, ). For those of you who are California residents, I was wondering what carrier you are with and what your premiums are.

I am currently with 21th century, they quoted me an estimate of ~ $4550/year for the 2001 A4 and the R8 5.2.

    Many thanks for your inputs.

That seems really high. How old are you? If your young try the trick all young people do where they are additional drivers on their parents policy

heheh, that wouldn't work . I am 41 and never had any claims or tickets, not even parking violation.

Ah right. I cant believe its so high tho especially in the US. For your age I would be expecting a cost of around $2,000 per year. I did a check for insuring just my dad on the R8 and it only came to around $800 a year, hes 61

Radius R8...Your rates sound decent. Rates are constantly changing. Some people change companies every month. SHOP around. One small change of zip code could change things considerably. Probably, the reason why you see cars with only 1,500 miles on them...if the car is used only to go to wash or a few car shows and locked in a good garage the classic rate would be around 350.00 for a 100k car. 700.00 for a 200Kcar. 30 + aged driver with a perfect record living in a nice neighborhood. Any more questions about Cali rates can be addressed to my office. Vivianna or Rosa will be glad to answer any of your questions in real time. 3237224329

I live in Minnesota and my R8 is my fourth car. My rate from State Farm with $1,000 deductible and with full replacement insurance is ...$462.00/yr. I am 63 and have no tickets for over 30 years and zero accidents... ever.

Re: Insurance question for Calif. owners

harrison, thanks for the offer. I am still doing comparative probing for now. Looks like there is a huge difference between companies.

I was quoted $2400/year from Geico which is 1/2 the cost for basically the same coverage as 21th century (2 cars, the A4 and the R8). I called Progressive but it seems they didn't even have the 2011 R8 5.2 in their list. The agent said that they would need a VIN to get me a rate quotation, which of course would be difficult since the car has yet to be built. Need to make a few more calls but it would seems that I am overpaying for insurance and thus will be switching company soon.

mngolfer, you are indeed a driver role model for us to emulate. So far so good for me.

I'm paying $1,200 per year for 250,000/500,000 with Allstate. In CA, 48 years old with perfect driving record, $1k deductible and under 7k, miles per year as a 2nd car. I also live in a small town outside of major metro areas.
