The prices for a slightly used 2010 V10 in the States are attractive, however, when you factor in that Canada Customs will ding the importer a 6.1% duty on the vehicle + the customary 5% sales tax, plus the cost to ship the vehicle to me + the cost needed to convert the vehicle to Canadian specs, I'm thinking that I'm better off confining my search in Canada, which brings me to my question...
I found a Canadian Audi dealer online who has a brand new 2010 V10 coupe (Suzuka grey) , manual, with the following options: CF interior, CF engine trim, CF side blade, Enhanced Leather, and Titanium Wheels (?). Since the vehicle has not been registered, it still carries the full 4-yr, 80,000 km (50,000 mi) warranty. The asking price is $171, 000 Canadian. I know that R8 pricing in Canada is higher than in the States, but on Ebay, I see people asking for $150,000 - $155,000 for their full Carbon R8 V10's with less than 5,000 miles on them. The dealer claims the original sticker price on the vehicle is $195,000 before taxes. My question: Do you think the $171,000 asking price is reasonable? Or should I opt to order a brand new 2011 vehicle with similar options for around the same sticker price of $195,000? Should I try to get the price down to around $165,000 or lower? Is there an advantage in getting the 2011 model for MSRP (i.e. $20,000+ difference) or are the 2010 and 2011 R8's essentially identical? I'm not too concerned about the depreciation since I plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time. If I decide to buy the vehicle, I plan to visit the dealership (not in the same province) to personally inspect the vehicle.
Any advice is appreciated and thanks in advance.
Regards,
Rico
