WOW! Really great stuff, Gazza. But I agree,,, that narrow walled track makes the Nurburgring seem super wide open. LOL... It look fantastically fun , but too narrow for me to do more than 8-10 on it unless I was being paid to drive someone else's car. Racing on it must be CRAZY going door to door.

Any photos of the car? It looked to be pure silk on the course. What were your impressions of the tranny?

Wow! The shifting is so quick it's amazing. Is this typical R-tronic on a track?

Is this a left hand drive car and if so, did that take a little bit of getting used to?

My guess is that its a real DSG tranny and has a foot pedal clutch for down shifting. Not a R-tronic at all.

Well Gazza, was it an R-tronik with paddles ? The car that you did your hot lap in ?

Just to reply to some of the questions..

1. The Car used was the silver Penfold LMS
2. Definitely no relation to the R-tronic at all.
3. Foot clutch and buttons on the wheel.

I asked a few questions to the Joust Team Manager who was involved in the development of the original road going R8 and the Lms(awesome friendly guy with a nice sense of humor by the way) around the transmission and was told that in the original development of the LMS the R-Tronic kept breaking Transmission Cases and bearings as the loads were too high.Also they found they could not get the software and mechanically specs right for the demands of racing.

So they went and developed a all new specific transmission for the R8 LMS.

Unfortunately I did not ask the specifics but it has no relation to the R-tronic.

In the car it felt similar to my Nissan Gt-r transmission so a DSG would be a sensible bet.

Very smoooth in upward and down changes and quick.
