Trade V8 Coupe for a V10 Spyder? Suggestions?

Hey Guys,

I'm sure most of you guys have seen my current car (Picture thread), I've been seriously considering to trade it in for the V10 Spyder, but many friends/ family has said the coupe is much nicer and that I should not change to a spyder.

What do you guys think?

Here would be the spec I would get (If it was to go through)

Ibis White V10 Spyder + Black hood
R-Tronic
Y-Spoke design Wheels
Black interior/ silver stitching
2011 Sat-Nav + Audi Music interface
Carbon interior, door sills, mirror caps
Hill hold, cruise, and park advance


Current spec car:
1.5 Years old
R8 V8 Ibis White + R-Tronic
20" Astadt 3 Piece wheels (Custom sprayed white lip/ black center)
Full V10 conversion (F+R Bumper, Side skirts, side blades)
V10 LED Lights
Carbon mirror caps
Sat Nav + 6 CD
Auto seats
Piano black inlays
Cruise, hill hold, Park Advance
QuickSilver Titan Exhaust

I say stick with the V8 mate. Ive always thought the R8 coupe looks better than the spyder. Plus you arnt going to track your car so the V8 engine is more than enough for public roads.

First it's a matter of personal taste and I think the coupe looks much better. It's not like i don't like top down cars, Have had Maserati Spyder and Boxster. Looks like you have a fair amount of mods so will lose a good amount of money on your 1 1/2 year old car and need to come up with a big chunk of change to upgrade. For way less you could put Stasis Supercharger on your car. I did that when I got the urge to trade up and when I did it felt like I had a whole new car.

I agree with the others. The R8 is a coupe. Without the blades and visible engine, the Spyder is just another (expensive) convertible.

Depends on if you want to enjoy some top down driving. Always a pleasure in my book.

I suppose I like the lines of the coupe better, but nothing like a topless drive. Will be able to hear the motor better too!

Whatever you do, go coupe. If it were Miami maybe a cabrio, but London? .... coupe, especially if you plan to drive it frequently.

I may be the sole dissenting voice here but I am very much in favor of the Spyder and have hardly any interest in the Coupe, & never have. I was never interested in the Gallardo or F430 Coupes, either, just their ragtops. On the contrary, however, I prefer the Aston Martin in all iterations in their coupe version as they are drop dead gorgeous, but living where there is convertible weather as I do - Florida in winter and spring and Vermont in summer and early fall - open top motoring is all I care to do and my Spyder is a magnificent convertible which I love to drive with the top down as often as I can.
So if you're going to open it up and enjoy the open air experience, by all means get the Spyder as it is one great sports car!

I traded my V8 coupe after 2 years for a V10 spyder. I am very happy with the trade. I do miss the V8 engine a bit as it was a better around town engine but nothing beats the neck snapping acceleration of the V10. Get the car you want. Either way you will be happy.

Have never been a fan of convertibles, so chalk up another vote for coupe.

Maybe I'm too old but I'm not a convertible fan. I know lots of owners have have the convertible and love it. But I had a BMW ragtop and after the first year, I hardly ever put the top down. It was either too hot, too cold, or too noisy. In Los Angeles traffic at stop lights, I didn't feel comfortable sitting in the car topdown when anyone could jump in off the street.

IMO the coupe has better lines, the sideblades are iconic, and the engine is under glass.
