Spyder Second to 458 in Robb Report

Robb Report's Car Of The Year Award gives second place to the R8 Spyder and first to the 458 Italia. Considering there is nearly a $70K price difference between them, coming in second is ****ed good. (in reality, it's more like a $100K difference because no one buys a base 458 and they usually have a sticker price of at least $275K).

I haven't owned a Ferrari since 1995 and had no relationship with Ferrari of Tampa but they took a $20K deposit from me at the end July and promised delivery this coming summer, "less than a year" were the exact words. After test-driving my R8 Spyder in early December, I fell in love and bought it on the spot. Although I'd love to also own a 458, I couldn't see selling either my newfound love and spending an additional $100K to get a coupe when I really wanted a convertible, and having to forgo slamming the gearshift in the awesome aluminum gate for "floppy paddles" behind the wheel just made no sense so I got my deposit back. My only regret is that had I followed thru and gotten the 458 (and perhaps sell my other car instead of the R8), I would have gotten a spot on the first year's production of the 458 Spider. Now that's a car I'd spend the extra $100K to own, floppy paddles notwithstanding! Love them convertibles!

Any R8 in whatever configuration should always be first but that's with bias of course.

Second is ok to a Ferrari I guess...

Seen 2 458's one in yellow and one in red on the road and I love them but is just me that thinks they lack the real Snapple and pop of a super car in the traffic and look small?

Yes its a mad statement to make.

Maybe I am being dulled by being around so many great cars over the last few years

4 Ferrari's available here for immediate delivery.

Is it possible that this website considers the word "d-a-m-n" to be a swear word? I wrote "d a m n e d" (without the spaces) and the computer shows ****ed. How absurd!

F458's cost over US$600K in Oz? Gazza1, how do you do it? Your R8 must cost over $400K! eek!

Tell me about it R8spyderman, cars in UK and US are similar prices, just slightly higher in UK. But in places like Australia, Norway, Singapore etc cars are more than double the price. Kiran whos from Singapore and has just bought a GT will probably be paying $400,000 or so for his GT, its crazy!

    A new R8 V8 stock is around 260k and a V10 around 370k.

This country has a 33% luxury car tax and other taxes which just jacks the price up.

A GT here is around the $480k before they start discounting them to try and sell one.

Average annual income for the population is around 65k

What annoys me is that the Aussie dollar is worth more than the US now and we still pay 2-3 times more for the equivalent car.

Average UK income is around £25-26K so factor that in and your Oz price is not quite so bad!
