    Carbon Fibre dashboard surround

    Hey Guys

I have the CF interior on my R8, and today I noticed 2 chips (the bit that loops around the driver area) theres 2 small chips on it right in the middle directly above the steering wheel. (God knows how its chipped there)

Does anyone know if this can be touched up/repaired

Also, I noticed that the top section is dull compared to the CF on the left and right... is this normal?

Yes that area is purposely matt CF with (I suppose) no clear coat for safety reasons because it is an area which catches alot of sun. There may be other reasons too.

Is it just the clear coat which is chipped? Surely you could repair using something as simple as womens clear nail varnish.

If you apply GTechniq C1 crystal lacquer to the CF parts this will drastically reduce the risk of future chips because c1 cures to form a nano composite quartz polymer lattice. Quartz has a hardness of 7 on the mohs scale of mineral hardness. I have applied this to my carbon mirrors and am in the process of applying it to all other CF on the R8.

Yeah it can guessing the clear coat thats chipped like the above comment.

I had my hood on my R34 repaired they repaired it then sanded it down then re lacquered.
    looked like new after

if its only chips I think I would try Fiftypence's nail varnish idea tho I've never tried it tho.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

My only concern is that using nail varnish will leave a gloss finish, where as the chip is in on the matt section of CF.

Looking at it, it looks like its taken a surface of the CF off rather than a laquer.

    Hey Chaps

This is the best pic I could get tonight. They don't look bad, but they are pretty obvious through the windscreen and from the passenger seat.

I have no idea how it happened, it just came back from Audi last week, but its hard to say how/if they did it.

I don't think they are quite as deep as I first thought though...

Are you talking about the two areas I've highlighted in red?

I figure a spot of Rimmel Pro Matte nail varnish (or similar) will do the job rather than the glossy variety. I just googled for a matt finish varnish rather than gloss.
