    Stronic r8?

All right so I have done research weather audi was going to release an stronic r8 anytime soon. Obviously I can't find any info about the subject. All I got is that they won't do it because they don't sale large volumes of the car. But I also found that they are investing a few billions of dollars into new technologies. I'm getting an r8 next year around July august. Once my lease is done for the z that I have right now. I just hope that when it is done the s tronic will be an option. You guys think it might be plausible idea that next year might be it?

Also no push start? Seriously Audi my 40k z has that. I was shocked that it's not even an option.
I still love the r8 its been my dream car since I can remember so no hate just love.

The R8 may have been a "hi tech" machine on '07, but it's not now. Having said that, I bought mine primarily for the driving experience, which is fantastic. I wouldn't expect to see S-tronic in the current generation R8, but I'm only guessing. The RT control software is substantially improved from early days. With the exception of Auto mode, which is of little use in any circumstance including traffic, the system works very well.

Push to start? That's how you judge a car? Maybe you'll be happier with a 2012 GTR. It's a fine machine (I really mean that) and it has all the Playstation bells and whistles.

By the way, welcome aboard. Sorry about the push to start crack, but it has so little to do with the driving experience. In many respects, the R8 is becoming more of a minimalist driver's car. Up on Foxen Canyon, I just don't care about junk in the ****pit. If the speed and sound aren't enough, your interests should steer you in another direction.

I wonder if the OP has actually driven an S-tronic Audi. Be careful what you wish for.

The R-tronic is, to me, an excellent way to retain some sense of a manual-gearbox car's character without it actually being a traditional manual gearbox. As for push-button start...

I always felt the r8 deserved a better key than it got - and for me personally, I'd prefer push start too to add a little something to the sense of occassion

With regards to the s-tronic vs r-tronic - what is it that you think you'd gain by dual clutch vs single clutch? even the new lambo aventador still has a single clutch in their automated manual:

I can see the possibility of the R8 using a version of Lambo's new "ISR" transmission that is being used on the Aventador later down the road.
That is a single shift rod gearbox that shifts in 50 ms

    Re: Stronic r8?

OP needs some intro to car industry 101.

audi had s tronic 10 yrs ago in the TT. reason it wasn't put in the r8 is that when engineering the R8 (or any new vehicle) the lowest common denominator in specifying its content was/is profit margin and marketing goal. in this case the mother platform was the gallardo. all the r&d for r-tronic was in and it made no economic sense to re-engineer the platform to accept a brand new tranny, esp. since more r8 buyers were seen as gt3 and pporsche type buyers who prefer manual trannys vs the toupe wearing lambo buyers/ferrari buyers who prefer gadgetry (no offense to anyone). this is the reason dsg was not put into the r8.

the longer the car has been in production the less likely it has become that it will receive the option (or any major component change) since it makes a million times more economic sense to roll it in to the new production model.

though some have said there are r8's being tested with dsg they are more likely one-off test mules for the next generation. at this point it looks audi and lambo will be going with a reventon-like single clutch gearbox for weight savings and "sports-feeling" or whatever lambo is calling it in the next r8 gallardo.

to the op- z370 to r8 is a big upgrade. i wouldnt jump to conclusions that just because your 40k car (for example) has a 40 gb music hardrive the r8 has an inferior sound system. by the way- the r-tronic shifts faster than the tranny in your z, weighs less, is rated at much more power, and costs more than the engine in your car.

Juan I suggest you just wait until you are ready to buy and see what is on the market at that time. Unless an Audi spokesperson was to give us any information then your guess is as good as mine regarding the gearbox etcetc in future R8 models.

You also need to add your location to your profile.

Well I'm just saying it will be nice for a 100 k car to have that little technology. I never judge the car because of that. I'm just saying since is a LUXURY super car it should have it at least as an option

Don't you worry Juan, many of us who actually own the car have come up with similar suggestions but we can't do anything about it. We bought it just the way it is because it is such a great car.

Strictly speaking you should have gone with the R8 instead of the 370Z in the first place
