    R8 GT rollbar

I'm fortunate to have a US build allocation for the GT, but as a track nut I'm disappointed that the rollbar will not be a factory option here. That said, I am wondering if anyone knows if this is a bolt-on piece to factory mount points such as the Porsche GT3 allows?

Based on other's experiences on the forum, I'm not excited about the prospect of tearing the car apart to weld plates etc.

I have an inquiry on this matter with Audi and will post results here should I receive feedback...

    Re: R8 GT rollbar

So, lets imagine you buy the R8 GT and it arrives without the rollbar etc so you want it retrofitted. The parts do not seem to be listed in ETKA as far as I can tell but OEMPlus or Europrice would be better to comment on this.

My point being that it doesn't seem simple to get hold of the rollbar if it doesn't come with the vehicle.

I would imagine Audi will not help you procure the rollbar for the same reasons it doesn't come factory on the US-spec R8 GT.

Fingers crossed it comes up in ETKA at a later date.

This is also true for Porsche here in the U.S. in that the part cannot be sourced directly from dealers. I have had no problem obtaining the OEM rollbar from contacts in Germany and hope the same will be true with the GT.

If the mount points are present, it'll make the job much easier (and cheaper) for an aftermarket supplier to craft a solution. I suspect ultimately it will be available to European clients as an OEM part for those who wish to the rollbar at a later time.

    Re: R8 GT rollbar

This part isn't in the catalog and is likely available directly from Quattro GmbH, however they may be sticklers about it going into an R8 GT for those who don't have them. They may or may not want a VIN to confirm and then there is the chance they know it's a North American allocation and they won't sell it. Never know with the ultra low number production parts like this, but I can always check as I have a few items to price out with them as it is.

    Cheers,

Yes they will fit if you use a large enough drill bit with the rotatory drill on the side of the car. You may only need to drill a hole in one side.

Perhaps I could use the resulting hole like the jap tuner guys do to add a classy additional 'cold air inlet' - do you think that will make it faster ;-)

It could work! - or if you get it in the right spot, maybe it will become a very large whistle and you'll announce your arrival like a train.
