    Going UK to Europe

    Hi

This is a question aimed at UK owners, and perhaps those in Europe. When crossing the Channel, do you get your lights switched over at Audi or just put those stickers on? It obviously makes sense to get Audi to do it but there's then the issue of driving home in the UK after dark, and the hassle of getting to a dealership at the right time pre and post trip.

I've got two trips coming up, one of 5 days and one of 2 weeks. Any thoughts/experiences would be much appreciated.

Never bother, I have only ever driven once in Europe at night, but if it was truly a 'Road Trip then I would get them changed or night time running.

I've never bothered either, i just keep the conversion stickers in the car in event i do get stopped by plod and then put them on...I've always never understood the manual to apply them in first place and never known anyone been stopped before for not having them.

Even going to Le Mans over the years, where the French plod are out in force looking for UK cars, never been stopped without them.

    Just dont drive at night

Just drive during daylight hours. All my trips through Europe involved drinking in the evenings with the car tucked up for the night!

This has been covered in previous threads but the general idea is:

    1) Some models have an option in DIS which allows you to adjust the beam angle electronically without any personal mechanical intervention

    2) On other models you will need to remove the headlights to make the adjustments which is fine if you follow the instructions from ELSAWIN.

Beam bender stickers do not work on the R8 headlights so those that have them will have them only for show to the police than being functional.

Personally I found I didn't have to drive at night in Europe anyway so felt no need to adjust the headlights. I just left them as they are.

Yes, Andy is right on his advice & that stickers don’t work on the R8, also, it’s impossible to carry spare bulb sets for the R8 which you are supposed to do, as you can’t just change them, in fact they should not fail in the first instance, better to make sure you have your hi vis jacket and a spare ( 2 ) warning triangle, first aid kit, also remember in some EU countries its illegal to have radar detectors.

I had my dealer adjust for me free of charge on the earlier V8s i owned, i did not bother with the Spyder, on our tours we are all in the bar and restaurants before night fall which seems a good way of avoiding the light adjustment problem!!

Thanks all. Mine don't require the headlights to be removed. I'm surprised the stickers don't work - they're designed for clear lens xenons and have been effective on previous cars I've owned. Any idea as to why not?
